Add a natural barrier to hide the GA Power substation on Windy Hill
Georgia Power is substantially expanding its substation near the corner of Windy Hill and South Cobb Drive. However, the current plans won't adequately hide the large substation from those traveling on Windy Hill and from the Smyrna Grove neighborhood directly across the street. With the current plans, this substation will be a visual scar on the same road and a short walk from where millions of SPLOST dollars are currently being spent to improve Windy Hill (the Windy Hill Boulevard project).
We are asking Georgia Power to add a natural visual barrier (e.g. trees and tall hedges) that will substantially hide the substation from passersby on Windy Hill and from the Smyrna Grove neighborhood. If Georgia Power accommodates this request, the portion of Windy Hill west of South Cobb stands to benefit from the Windy Hill Boulevard beautification effort. If Georgia Power does not accommodate this request, the substation could permanently harm the surrounding area (which is already economically challenged), potentially impacting home prices and reducing the chances for further economic development.
