I grew up in BVE and never felt concerned about bike lanes being needed.

The City of Lafayette's Engineering, Public Works Department should consider: additional Speed Bumps & Stop Signs in the Safe Routes to School pilot study; furthermore, the pilot study should not consider permanent elimination of parking on one side of a street to accommodate a dedicated pathway for pedestrians and bicyclist.

A 6 inch berm will not protect peds and bicyclists.

Please leave the streets in the Burton Valley as is. They are safe. We live here. 561 Arrowhead Drive

As a Merriewood Drive resident for 39 years, I am against the multi-use pathways with asphalt berms. I do support the proposed traffic calming solutions - speed humps, red curbs, no parking before/after school hours, etc, Let's not ruin it for the many walkers, dog walkers, bicyclists, skateboarders, horseback riders that use Merriewood and adjacent streets.

Please try speed humps to slow traffic and do a little bit at a time instead of such extreme measures to change our beloved neighborhood

With two children at BVE, I can appreciate the appeal of a dedicated/separated bike lane. However, this solution just does not seem practical for a residential neighborhood like ours, for many of the reasons outlined in the July 21 Staff Report. However, I am fully supportive of the other proposed traffic calming measures including speed humps, no parking during school dropoff/pickup hours, red curbs near intersections, etc. These are much more reasonable steps to address/ensure the safety of our children in a practical manner.

Did not sign at first because I thought it was a joke! But these plans for Burton Valley are real. Stop them now.

I’ve lived at 565 Silverado for 40 years. I completely support traffic calming to reduce speeds ( speed humps etc), but I absolutely do not support the walk/bike lane and eliminating parking on one side of the street. The lane is confusing for children learning the rules of the road. It’s not wide enough to be safe and ultimately be les safe. As a resident in the affected area, I believe our input is especially important. Thank you

I strongly oppose the proposed reduction in parking in Burton Valley to create multi-use pedestrian/bike/skateboard paths with a permanent asphalt berm. My family has owned a home in Burton Valley since 1963 and I've never noticed any traffic safety issues beyond people occasionally driving over the speed limit. This is one of the safest neighborhoods for walking that I have ever lived in. I agree with the statements made by others: - trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist - potentially making things worse by requiring pedestrians/bikes/skateboards to share a path that doesn't even come close to the width required by CatTrans or US DOT safety standards. - potentially making things worse by requiring pedestrians to cross the street more than they might need to without the dedicated lanes - potentially making things worse or at least confusing by not following standards we all learned in school: walk on the side against traffic and ride bikes with the traffic. - Creating new issues for mail and other deliveries - Creating new issues for garbage/recycling pickup - Creating new safety issues if drivers (including delivery vehicles) have to make u-turns to park I'm not wild about adding speed bumps but that's a far better alternative than eliminating 50% of the parking and creating pedestrian/bike/skateboard lanes that are too narrow. My house is not located on Merriwood so I can't speak to the proposal to prohibit parking on both sides of the street during school commute hours.

We lived on Moraga Blvd. from 1996-2006 and have lived on Silverado since 2006. I was involved in and supported the traffic calming measures that were ultimately enacted on Moraga Blvd. I DO NOT support the initiatives that are currently being suggested in Burton Valley. Burton Valley roads don't come close to having the same issues that existed on Moraga Blvd. when we lived there. And, even with the issues that existed on Moraga Blvd, only "pincher" medians were put in. The rules and invasive barriers being suggested for Burton Valley are far more extreme than what was done on Moraga Blvd.
