While I support TCC staff-suggested efforts to reduce the speed of vehicles near Burton Valley School, I oppose installation of berm-separated paths. As clearly noted in the July 21 Staff Report, there are many unresolved issues and potential new problems that would be introduced by berms. Other safety-enhancing strategies (curb painting, bumps, landscape trim, sidewalks, etc.) enjoy broad community support. Berms are very controversial, and (in my opinion) defy the logic of considering "what is the real problem" and then developing "the best solution." I also recognize the historical safety of the neighborhood (I have lived in Burton Valley for 30 years and raised two children who attended neighborhood schools). Let's get the attention of drivers, and get them to drive slowly, and not partition our narrow streets with berms.

I live at 563 Silverado and am against creating a asphalt berm and also against prohibiting parking in front of my house.

Please, please do not ruin our neighborhood with more rules berms, speed bumps, etc. How many fatalities have we had in Burton Valley that warrant such drastic changes. “ If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” fits this situation!

Burton Valley does not need more traffic calming "solutions." The facts bear this out.

We are in support of this petition. We are also in support of your proposed traffic calming solutions including speed bumps, striping of the curbs, narrowing of driving lanes, etc. However we are totally opposed to your proposals that include shared, curbed two-way bike and pedestrian lanes that are too narrow by any regulatory standards and the permanent elimination of parking on one side of any street on all days,24/7. We have lived at 571 Merriewood Drive since 1977 and believe we know what's best for the neighborhood and best for improving the safety of the students and residents of Burton Valley.

Because most of the proposers don't live in the affected area 24/7 and because they have not done a thorough research, their proposal does not resolve their perceived problem. Rather, they will only exacerbate it.

I grew up walking and biking to Burton Valley Elementary and to Stanley Middle School. Nothing about these streets ever felt unsafe to me. There has to be a better use for these funds. I don’t see much benefit to this project other than a false sense of security/safety for parents.

Having lived on Silverado one block from BVE for 19 years, I am in favor of a pilot project aimed at traffic calming. However, the proposed ped/bike lane would have dramatic negative impact on residents who live here and would not guarantee the safety of those who use it. The photos shown don't look anything like our neighborhood. I strongly oppose these measures and will let the Trans/Circ Commission know!

I see no hard facts that indicate this is necessary. Residents in the affected area will be adversely affected. This will create a myriad of problems in the future with parking and access issues.

The safety proposal is very disruptive to the flow of traffic on Merriewood Drive. I think there should be one hour parking on one side of the street twice a day. There aren't that many children who walk by my house on Merriewood in the morning.

Nanny state advocates. Traffic today much calmer than in 1968 when I moved in.

I do not support the walk/bike lane and do not believe it will keep children safer. However, I do highly support the traffic calming measures that are being implemented and believe they will keep walkers and cyclers safer. As a resident whose home is on an affected street, I believe our input should have priority.

Burton Valley is a very safe neighborhood for bike riding and walking!! The proposed changes are ridiculous!!

I ride my bike everyday and I have no problems. None of my friends do either.

There is no good reason to make these drastic changes. All cars on one side of the street will make it less safe. I agree to trying to slow trsffic but not a permanent bike lane!

100% against the proposed changes.

Why change something when there appears to be no problem?

In my forty five year residence on Silverado Dr. there has never been one child injured while going to and from Burton Valley Elementary School.
