Scarborough council don't have the mechanics that are required to carry out these inspections so more money has to be spent SBC always say shop local so why are they going to take trade away from local garages,

In my eyes scbc is plundering local buisness for there own financial gains,it will not make them any safer,just inconvenience the trade to the extent that a lot will leave and I know of 5 to date. I have seen a massive decrease in drivers working the ranks over the last few years and certainly not many new coming into it. Nothing more than financial gain,and council snobbery.

If the taxi company pay for the MOT then there is no need to restrict where they have to take the vehicle for testing.

A total disgrace!! SBC will be able to charge as much as they won't to ?? In a year or to if this is aloud. A free country??? Free to get a MOT at a garage of our choice??

I feel this is a restriction of trade whilst also discriminating against reputable local garages who have the full license to carry out MOT's.

I can not believe this is happening. Do SBC have better MOT examiners than other garages struggling in the economic climate. Why can local garages that are registered to mot not carry out this work. Totally scandless.

I understand a certain level of standards need to be met by Taxi's and Hackney carriages as a matter of necessity but I cannot see any positive reason for the new policy other than a benefit for nobody other than that of the council.

I think it's disgusting behaviour and should not be allowed. The council should not be able to make this ruling. It's bad enough they have to be twice yearly mot's , even on brand new vehicles without this.
