Autodiesel employs 3 MOT testers. Taxi MOT make up a percentage of all MOT we carry out. If SBC takes all Taxi tests in house it will have an effect on our business and may lead to unnecessary redundancies.

It's ridiculous, the back log that it will create will be immense and the revenue taken from the local garages is just a damn cheek.

An MOT certificate from any approved tester should suffice. Also there are the costs to council to consider re facilities, admin, etc.

I'd like to hear from local garages! What about buses? Council already bogged down with enough red tape! Send Council vehicles out for independent mot's! At local garages! Medicals for Council Officers please, then at least we know they are sane!

If SBC are stipulating that MOT qualified mechanics are not able to for whatever reason to MOT taxis then how are they able to MOT the thousands of other cars in the Borough?
This can only be down to an income generating ploy-

Totally unacceptable from Sbc. Is anyone surprised with this new justify your job brainstorm? Scarborough borough councils governing area is home to some of the strictest regulations at present. It is home to some of the safest,cleanest and friendly taxi firms and drivers in the country. Anyone got a cab in the city?....enough said. I haven't come across a driver who isn't looking after their car. Why take custom from the garages. Like all trades there will always be a few,however deal with them. Don't tar everyone with the same brush. I like the garage I use. I'm loyal to them and they're honest and professional in return.

If SBC have any concerns about the "consistency" of MOT tests, then reporting the said garrage/tester to VOSA would surely be in the "interest of public safety". As all cars in the borough over 3 years old require a MOT, not just Taxis and PHV's.
I have been in the taxi trade for almost 12 years and have seen SBC move the goalposts more times than I care to remember. Surely they must realise that to undertake this in the specified time frame is almost impossible?
I sense a job being put out to tender, which again will bring money into the council's purse for doing next to nothing!
