If SBC has no confidence in the existing MOT testing stations they should be addressing the problem and not opening their own test stations as a side line!

the revenue that local garages will loose will result in job losses and will have an impact on what people think on mot stations. we look after taxis it will have an impact on our revenue sbc taking more trade away from whitby its not just the mot its the inconvience of local taxi having to travel to scarbrough if they fail and thay have to go back how are they going to fit this in the time scale

Regardless of the so called justification of this by SBC to have every taxi in the borough to have to go to scarborough for an MOT and put more of our money into SBC coffers. Its a disgrace

This is clearly someone's bright idea to create extra revenue. As a member of the public, i'd rather not have my safety looked after by a bunch of self serving imbeciles!

A total disgrace, they keep saying support local buisness, and then take it off locals, corrupt to the core. At the moment SCBC is destroying the taxi and private hire trade in the boro, they need to go get in a taxi and do the job for a few week, and see what the trade is up against.and then make there decision. We don't all get a whopping salary with fring benefits,qe live in the real world.

Unfortunately this council are control freaks and crooks ( my opinion ) the council will try to make you pay to park outside your taxi offices because that's what they are sll about.

Stop this cartel policy. I am more than capable selecting which MOT station is right to carry out work on my vehicle. Support local testing stations, drop this policy.

Lets not forget SBC i believe also want to change the tyre tread limit ? from 1.6mm to 2mm ! why not change global emission rules whilst at it ? I also believe the number of licenced vehicles is nearer 740 ? with the current 8 week notification to owners how will the council cope with this number of M.O.T tests and not forgetting failure's leading to retests. The M.O.T means nothing after the car has left the test station ! it can be unroadworthy for a number of reasons including fair wear and tear. If SBC has doubts about reliability regarding Biased MOT's then certain private hire operators who own an MOT station should not be testing their own vehicles. In respect of this issue, i also believe SBC should not be testing their own fleet of vehicles as this can also be seen as biased ? I will be contacting the transport minister as well as my MP regarding SBC wanting to change tyre tread limits as i think they have gone too far. As for cost - They can charge driver / owners £59 for an MOT and £19.99 for a retest ? who's making a few ££££ here then ???

I am a mechanic working in the Whitby area and I. Believe that SBC's proposal will affect a lot of local trade. Not only will garages, like the one I work in, lose the MOT test fee bet the maintenance and repair work. For example if a taxi were to fail then the owner is not likely to want to bring it back to Whitby for us to fix, instead I think they would choose to use a garage local to the testing station.

I don't like the big brother attitude of SBC Or the way they strip the assets from Whitby Town(Car parking revenue, Stone paths, Revenue from unwanted kiosks) and try to ruin the ones they can't take away (piers). Now they are taking away garage work and revenue from local businesses that could result in job losses.

I agree that any licensed taxi be it hackney or private hire should be checked thoroughly and all be done in the same place to ensure stringent guidelines are met and also I think that they should b made publicly aware too
