Last year I asked my grand daughter how she liked Chapelle. With a big smile, she answered that she loved it. Today she is down-hearted and not happy. The change in the schedule format is but one reason. However, judging from conversations with students and parents, there are additional issues causing unhappiness of students. Question - what prompted the administration to make the change? Who ever is responsible should step forward and give some sound and logical reasons for the change.

My little sister is going there and I know if I still attended, the loss of IS and electives would effect me negatively. I want her to share the same positive experience I had!

2005 alum. IS period was very important to completing my homework which was almost impossible for me to do at home due to family stressors. Additionally, the fact that Chapelle plans to remove electives is shameful because most of my friends from Chapelle had creative personalites and art classes helped them to develop as artists.

My daughter uses the IS time to do homework & get help if need to. Eliminating block will add Stress to her studies. Her electives she saved for next yr her Senior year looking forward to those classes. Will now take away the Joy of her Senior year. I hear more people saying don't go to Chapelle now ! Heard it from strangera

This is probably the worst decision Chapelle could ever make. My sister will be going here in a couple of years and I'd like her to have the same opportunity I had. The block schedule assists with time management and electives, especially art (for me personally), can be a stress relief. They can't possibly juggle all the things expected of them before college without a block schedule or IS.

Removing the “blocked schedule” system from our girl’s academics will NOT benefit them in a college setting. College students typically take a maximum of four classes a day—the blocked schedule system prepares girls for days focusing on specific subjects. When I was a student at Chapelle, I remember how much we all hated the first day of every semester when we would go to each class for 30-45 minutes—we were completely exhausted by the end of the day, and I never really felt like I personally had the time to focus on each subject. The blocked schedule system not only gives our girls the opportunity to mentally focus their time and energy on four subjects at a time, but also gives our girls more time to complete homework, study, and receive the help they need for classes on alternate days. Independent Study also gives our girls the time and opportunity to complete homework, study, and receive tutoring. I was heavily involved in extra curricular activities at Chapelle. Without the valuable Independent Study period that Chapelle offered every student, I would in no way have been able to maintain my grades, be a varsity athlete, and be the President of Student Council. Lastly, because Archbishop Chapelle is a college preparatory school, we need to hold on to giving our students the right to choose different areas they focus on. Electives give students the opportunity to do just that—and, keep in mind, our rising young ladies will be expected to chose a major to focus their studies on soon after their high school years begin. Electives give our students the opportunities to experience different subjects and areas that typical required courses do not. Class of 2011

Though I understand & support the necessary changes designed to improve ACHS, I would not consider the removal of the block schedule progressive. The priority of the school, as always, should be presenting students with the best opportunities possible as a springboard for their future.

They should keep the block schedule along with IS. The block schedule helps students greatly in so many ways. I loved it when I attended. IS helps students get help with their homework which for the most part at other school is hard to come by. It also allows the students to get their homework done so they can do after school activities.
