Keep the Earth Sciences Admin Team in the Department during the Academic Restructure and move to the School of Engineering, Physical and Mathematics
The College has planned through the Admin Restructure to relocate our admin team out of our Department to work in a 'School Hub' located in the Wolfson building. This will have a negative impact on our student experience, firstly due to us being hugely outnumbered joining a School with the large student bodies of Biology and Psychology (in the School of Life Sciences, which isn't necessarily the most fitting School for our department compared to the School of Engineering, Physical and Mathematical Sciences) mean that the total number of students in our School will be ~2100 students, with one helpdesk to try and suit all of our needs. This means that queries about specific Earth Science course options and degree pathways, field trips, and sorting out contracts for students to work in the Department, for example, will not be as efficient or as personal compared to the current admin structure in the Department.
The proposed admin relocation is impractical and insufficient which is likely to be reflected in future NSS scores if this detrimental change goes ahead, as well as disrupting the brilliant close-knit staff-student relationships we have in Earth Sciences. I can confidently say that we all value our admin team very highly, and are exceedingly grateful for all they do for us, both directly and behind the scenes - and they are crucial to the effective functioning of our department.
