State inspections cause people more problems. It’s unfair to jeopardize a persons source of transportation then expect them to pay for it. It’s like if I get into an accident and the person who hit me doesn’t have insurance so my insurance has to cover it. Nowadays the only way that happens is with uninsured motorist coverage which is extremely unfair. The state is the person with no insurance and their vehicle is “state inspection”. Please do away with this dreadful law.

Studies have shown these inspections do not impact safety. They are a waste of time and money, and yet another pay wall or poor tax on Virginia residents.

This is not about safety it is an economic stimulus program that helps keeps too many bad garages in business. And the great state of VA expects you, the citizen, to pay for it, along with expecting you to pay one of the very top personal property tax rates in the country. I have had my cars tampered with purposefully by several inspection stations in Warren County VA garages and dealerships because I do all of my own repairs and they know it. Others will not even inspect my cars because they know I do my own work and that they will not be able to pile on charges. 35 other states don't require annual "safety inspections" yet their citizens can drive in VA without the burden of having a "safety inspection". Hopefully the recent changes in the VA General Assembly will address the outdated and unfair policies that we are subject to.

I totally agree with it petition. get rid of inspection. just think you go out today to get inspection . they put your brakes on and your inspection passed. ok the next week you went to the store and your brakes gave out. the ones that they called there self put on your car. now you paid 20 , them to install brakes plus labor for inspection to pass and now you have to go buy some more brakes and pay to get they put on. again.

I totally agree with the petition's valid points arguments. Not to mention the disruption of trying to fit this time consuming adventure into our daily schedules (especially working people). Although I always make an appointment, I still have to wait. If any problem arises with my vehicle that may be a safety issue, I take care of it at the time, as I do not want to drive an unsafe vehicle. Prior to delivering my vehicle to an inspection station, I always self-inspect it for any possible issues that might cause a failed inspection. Recently, one of my vehicles failed to pass because I was told that the turn signal switch was defective. I knew it was not defective and proved it. Made my point, won the argument, and got my sticker. If I had not contested the issue, at $125.00 per hour labor rate, think what that unnecessary fix would have cost!

It is just a racket to get our money. We live on a fixed income and it is so hard to come out with the money to repair stuff that has nothing really to do with the safety of the car. If you take the vehicle for the free inspections at the dealerships that you buy it at, they have a list of parts that they say have life span times on them and whether the part is bad or not, if they say you have to change it or get rejected, what are you supposed to do? they have you by the short hairs.!!! Get rid of these damn stickers and get it over with!!!!!!!!!

They must abolish this inspection permanently. our governor must take actions, especially our situation now, economy is down, this will help majority of the Virginians to save money and their time.
