This Fall term, Saint Xavier University has been issuing tickets to students at the Orland Park campus who do not have a university issued parking permit on their car. The price for permits are $140 for the whole school year, and $75 for a semester. It is not as if tons of people are trying to park there from other businesses and/or there are free spots available around the area, as is the case at the Chicago campus. It clearly is just a method to generate more revenue for the school and is unethical. If there were such a problem with non-university students utilizing the lot it would much more understanble. However, that is not the case. There is no viable option for public transportation to that campus so students are being forced into paying a "tax" for going to class, a class which has already been paid for through their tuition. The goal of this petition is to get the message to the powers at be that this is not an acceptable way to treat their students and future alums, and reverse the requirement to purchase a parking permit for students attending classes at the Orland Park campus, grant amnesty for the tickets issued and refund the money paid for tickets already paid for.
