Final supporters
As students we pay the university £9,000pa. for a service. The service we receive is knowledge from our lecturers and seminar tutors that enables us to complete our assignments and pass our exams. This means that we are consumers, as we are paying to receive something in return.
This opens us up to the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
As you may be aware, many of our university lecturers/tutors are striking over the upcoming weeks. These lecturers have been asked by their union not to replace missed content or reschedule lectures. This means that we are not receiving the service that we are paying for, as there are clear dates for the semester start/ends, and therefore are not getting the full service that we are paying for.
The university will still be receiving the money that we are paying for our tuition, but not paying the staff that are on strike. This means that the university are profiting from our loss.
As a result, those who sign this petition are asking that the university refund us the money that would be payed to the staff to those affected (as lecturers are not replacing content). We understand that there are still running costs that the university will incur as the matter is out of their hands, and therefore we only ask for the money that would be paid to the lecturers that we deserve back- our money.
I hope that the university understands our position as consumers.

I never thought we would actually see this much traction when I started typing this out in my dorm room at three in the morning. It feels like people finally realize we are getting shortchanged here and honestly it is about time someone pointed out the math behind the university profiting from our missed classes.

Living off campus and commuting is stressful enough but showing up to empty halls is a joke. If they cant teach then give us our money back so I can actually learn the syllabus before exams start.
Still unsure which of our lectures will be striking in IBERS, I may drive all the way in just for lecturers not to turn up. I back the strike but I don't want to miss out on my expensive education
Emma jane honey is my name and in in my second year of uni doing criminology and this will affect my grades I've paid and borrowed a lot of money to do my degree so I would very much appreciate a refund for the missed work on your lecturers behalf so I can find a private tutor to teach me the lectures we will miss.
I feel it is unfair that we are paying so much money to be educated and improve our knowledge and skills on our chosen subjects, yet when this is taken from us, we will not receive any compensation. I feel we are owed the money for the week's we are missing out on the services we are paying for.
Not acceptable. I pay £9000 per annum and will not accept that my lectures will never be rescheduled
Not fair to be losing out on education if we are paying for it.

9 grand a year is ridiculous when im teaching myself half the course because of the strikes. sort it out.
