Abbotsham Road Access Issues

The whole issue of new developments around Bideford has been severely badly handled by TDC where they have given way to uncaring and scrupulous land owners who in turn have been enticed by money grabbing non local development companies who "poach" farmers with huge "sweeteners" - and yet farmers are now moaning because of the proposed change to inheritance tax laws! But not only have TDC let us down by caving in to developers they have totally failed to manage the work efficiently, safely and in a caring manner for existing residents. Abbotsham Road is just one example but there are likely to be more - take for example Badgershill Wood opposite Winsford Park which though not yet sold will cause the same amount of traffic chaos plus noise and general annoyance to local residents. This Rick Turner/Gladman development was twice turned down by TDC but when faced with the Planning Inspectorate on Gladman's appeal they didn't have the bottle to face them down. Bideford cannot take the amount of new houses and resultant number of cars and pressure on the very poor road and social infrastructure and now this road fiasco is just appalling.....

The road closure has had a significant impact on commute times, and is very frustrating when little work is observed on a daily basis

These works have been a disaster from the start. As Many people have presented, we rarely see much actual work happening. Caveat - I did once see a young chap pushing a broom around. Not 'sweeping', merely pushing. For people with children at two schools either side of this disaster area, and then possibly employment to get to, well my heart goes out to them. For medical personnel, home helps etc, this ridiculous lack of foresight and effective planning puts lives at risk. This not only affects local residents, but the knockon in terms of congestion, delays etc hits the whole of Bideford. Come on local planners. You created this mess - please sort it.

This has caused numerous traffic issues with the school buses and the stagecoach bus 319 15 and the moreton road diversion absolute nightmare

To get to and from Bideford college at the moment adds 20 mins on to the journey each way and it’s dangerous driving through the residential area the diversion goes through. My children are also regularly late to school catching the school bus

This closure is affecting many of my friends and local businesses. Maybe there should be timed closures when the workforce is actually on site and traffic lights with through access at weekends…..

Absolutely disgusted at all the disruption.

The mitigations listed here should have been in place since day 1.

Extremely inconvenient and inconsiderate for those living close by.

I live literally behind the hedge at collet Park to where the works is being completed. To see such a small park of the road closed to cause such disruption is absolutely ridiculous. School run is taking for ever and is a complete nightmare. Surely a traffic light system could be put in place when the major works has been completed.

With all the houses that are being built, wildlife have no where to go and be safe. We are losing our fields and safe places for profiteering. Laying pipes shouldn't take forever. You are impacting on people's lives unnecessarily.

Causing absolute chaos. I have one child at Bideford college and one at Abbotsham primary, it is a logistical nightmare trying to pick them both up from school

The extensive carbon footprint alone, forgetting that WORKING people have far longer days, is making this ridiculous closure beyond a a joke. This is about saving builders cash, not H & S. Open our road! We need the access more than another 1,000 houses that no locals in need can afford to buy!

This road needs to be open! Diverted lorries have been stuck down narrow lanes, diversion not signposted properly, it's causing chaos.

Ridiculous amount of time taken to do this job. Would help if they worked a full day! Other roads now getting churned up due to increase in traffic.
