As of Jan 2019, there were 8,575 homeless people in Michigan. In Detroit alone, there are 380,719 vacant abandoned homes that the government and city don't use. I believe that in order to help the homeless especially in the brutal Michigan weather, we must petition to have them available to the homeless. There are many homeless out there that need a place to stay to get their life together and start over. If we keep turning our heads, one day someone will turn their head on you. Let's make our voices heard and sign this petition!

I was driving around the east side yesterday and just seeing row after row of boarded up buildings when people are literally freezing out there really got to me. It feels like the city is just waiting for these structures to crumble into dust while we could be fixing them up for families who have nowhere to go. I am trying to get a meeting with someone at the housing office but they keep pushing me off to voicemail which is just so frustrating when the cold is already settling in.

I was looking at the screen and just realized how many people actually care about these empty houses because honestly I started this feeling like shouting into a void. It is wild to see this picking up speed when for the longest time it was just me talking to my laptop screen and thinking about those frozen Michigan nights.

its freezing out there. why are those houses just sitting empty while people are literally dying on the streets? fix it up and let them have a roof.
what a joke. we have so much vacant space and people are sleeping in tents in the snow. do something already
Used to live in the city and saw these empty homes everywhere. It is a total waste. Get people inside before the next big storm hits.
too many people struggling for no reason when the solutions are right in front of our faces
Makes way too much sense. Way better than just letting them crumble away.

DETROIT NEEDS TO STEP UP. These buildings look like garbage anyway so might as well put them to use instead of letting them rot.
