Dear Parents,
We all received an email yesterday from the Treasurer of ABA with rather concerning news. The situation certainly calls for the ABA Board elections in May 2019 to result in the most competent and professional candidates being elected to represent you at the highest decision making body at ABA.
For you as a parent it is very important that ABA provides the best education for your children in a stimulating environment. Top quality teachers, the new Irfan campus, sustainable financing are all essential elements for the success of ABA.
Important decisions to achieve this mission are taken by the ABA Board, and therefore the Board should consist of high calibre people with the right experience. To attract these people, the Board elections should not be rushed from its originally planned date of 28 May to 1 May 2019. Contrary to the message of the Chairman of the Board, putting the election back to the original date does not flout any Bylaw or Policy, as elections can be held on any day in the school year.
Also, it is essential that the voice of all parents is heard at these elections, which was not the case in 2018 when less than 20% of the parents participated in the Board elections using paper voting. Voting can be made much more easier through electronic voting, thus allowing all parents to participate.
Options for electronic voting have been reviewed together with ABA IT and I have made a proposal to the ABA Board to use electronic voting for the upcoming Board elections. Electronic voting is simple and secure, and is used by many large organizations around the world. However, the Board seems to be dragging their heels to adopt electronic voting for the upcoming Board elections.
Therefore, this petition to:
- Move back the ABA Board election date to its original date of 28 May 2019
- Use electronic voting to allow all parents to cast their vote and select the right candidates
Grateful if you could support me by signing this petition. I will present the results of this petition to the ABA Board to ensure that your voice is being listened to.

The feedback I have received from many of you confirms that the timeline for these elections remains a point of significant concern for our community. Conversations with various stakeholders are ongoing as we push for a more transparent and accessible voting process. Your continued engagement helps ensure that these administrative decisions remain focused on the long term interests of our children.

The growing momentum behind this request reflects a shared commitment to the future of our school community. This level of engagement confirms that many of you agree on the importance of an open and deliberate election process.

I find it perplexing why anyone would want to resist the implementation of electronic voting! Surely we should appreciate that this would increase voter participation which would ultimately lead to the highest credibility for the elected board. How can only 20% voter participation be considered a satisfactory turnout - does anyone believe this represents the will of the parent community? Please let’s all get aligned on this initiative - it’s healthy to encourage wider participation in these elections and electronic voting will achieve that! I believe even supranational institutions globally use these methods - if it works for them surely it’s viable for us too!!
the election should be moved to its original date 28th of May with electronic voting system. we need highly professional people with experience and good decision making skills.
You mention that you started this petition after you received an email from the ABA treasurer - I thought I would point out that any financial reporting can be slanted to reflect any outcome a person wishes to show - so I personally take his email with a pinch of salt, I also feel that as Treasurer of the Board - it was extremely bad form to send out that email - after last year - I thought the whole issue of untrustworthy board members was a thing of the past... However - with regards to dates and electronic voting - I agree - this needs to be done, so am happy to sign - I just want to make sure - that I point out I am not signing this as an agreement that I believe everything the Treasurer sent out - it is purely that I want to be able to vote electronically.
To safe this school you need people on the board with the right qualifications to make this happen. Pushing election forward is not the way to go now, finding the right people to apply is, and that needs more time. Electronic voting would be a step forward and you will definitly engage more parents to vote.
I think it's a great idea to have an online voting option! We are in the 21st century! I never came to vote at school because the timings are really inconvenient. And, yes, why was the rush to move the election forward by 4 weeks? A lot of good candidates may miss their chances to think and prepare, since a many families are travelling on the Spring break. Thank you Thomas!
Electronic vote is a great thing

I totally agree that there must be electronic voting as it will help a large number of parents to participate in the election procedure. I'm surprised that it hasn't been a practice at ABA! Moreover, it is again astonishing to see the board taking unilateral decisions. Now, it is advancing the elections from 28th May to 1st May. How long will the ABA parents community be taken for granted? I request and appeal that electronic voting be put in place irrespective of the number of people who sign this petition. Thank you.
