Although I never was able to do the at home test, when a colleague took it I was struck by what a great learning experience it was. The test I recently took was unhelpful and the testing center experience was an insult to me as a professional. I refuse to show my socks and the insides of my pockets again for anyone. I didn't get here by being a cheater and I resent the implications. And don't get me started on the premise of having my patients say whether I washed my hands......

A waste of time and money with no evidence to support its existence over the old methods of recertification.

I am not against recertification in principle, but I am against recertification in its current form. I recertified for the first time in 1997. It was an open book computer test that proved to be a real learning experience. The recertification in 2004 was less helpful. My recent recertification with the new MOC process was an embarrassing waste of time and money. I would like the AAP to represent my interest and those of other pediatricians by opening a formal dialogue with the ABP.

Although I do not have "lifetime certification", I still question the value of the MOC process for the high cost.

In addition to other comments, I have little confidence in the claim that the public demands board certification. Where is the evidence for this claim as well as others about effectiveness of MOC?

Where is the AAP Leadership? Why aren't they out in front representing our interests in dealing with the independent body of the ABP? These issues seem so obvious to any Board Certified pediatrician.

There is no data to support that completing MOC makes one practice medicine better. The testing format doesn't conform to what a pediatrician would do when treating patients.

MOC is a unilateral decision without data or techniques to ensure that MOC has validitation as a quality indicator. It is expensive and not consistent with demonstrated learning modalities in highly educated professionals

the self learning program that used to be associated with certification is much more helpful for continued education and much less stressful

the process is too complicated; too expensive and overrated.

The ABP lacks any accountability and transparency of governance or finances. They have been completely unresponsive to concerns of pediatricians. This needs to change now.
