Saturday, November 15th we tuned into the highly promoted Aaliyah movie that aired on Lifetime. Some of us knew that they family didn't support this movie and others did not. For all of us however, the expectations were high, and we were let down. Our Princess Aaliyah was misrepresented by Lifetime.

The casting was poor. It seems like Alexandra Shipp didn't have a clue of who Aaliyah was and her mediocre acting reflected that. The casting for the roles of R.Kelly, Timbaland, Missy and Damon Dash were tragic at best. The music was left out (because they did not have the rights). The music they did have, Alex Shipp performed, which was subpar. Lastly, Aaliyah (pronounced Aaah-lee-yah) was mispronounced the whole way through. This movie was poorly written, casted, directed and developed.
To add further insult, Wendy Williams, the producer of this movie, tweeted her fav Aaliyah song was "let me know," when the song is actually, "At your best," an Isley Brothers remake.
On Monday, Novenber 17th, 2014 Wendy threw shade while passively mentioning the movie saying "loved it or hated it, you still watched." She also mentioned that the movie had high ratings, some of the highest in television history.
Lifetime, has created some terrible biopics in the past, most notably, The Brittney Murphy story and Liz and Dick. They are also aware of the outrage of this movie, yet they are re-airing it.
Wendy Williams over the years have disrespected many, and yet we support her. It is time speak up and boycott Lifetime, Lifetime sponsors, Wendy Williams and her sponsors. It is time for a public apology.
