Stop the Arundel Bypass - Save Arundel's Countryside

Why do we need to destroy such precious and ancient woodland, the natural habitat for so many important species of wildlife and the eco systems that support these, and many old and beautiful ancient buildings. We need to look at the bigger picture and the environmental price paid for just more convenient and financially economical journeys.

5a will not solve the traffic problem and will damage woodland and wildlife. The New Purple Route is a more sensible option to consider.

There is no reasonable justification for Highways England's choice, which flies in the face of logic, local opinion and, above all, the views of the SDNPA and Natural England.

Other options, both cheaper and less environmentally destructive, are available.

Please recommend that the New Single Purple Route, a wide single carriageway solution on the Option 1 alignment, be considered for the reasons outlined in the petition

Option 5a is the most environmentally damaging. The woodlands that would be destroyed support a wide range of rare and threaten species, once lost they are irreplaceable.

Until Worthing and Chichester have been bypassed or upgraded, a new road at Arundel will only get traffic to the above congestion hot-spots quicker.

I hope Highways England will now take the opportunity to dispel my own perception that the original decision was pre-adopted, and that both environmental and cost factors will prevail.

Hopefully, the logic of choosing a more cost effective and less environmentally damaging option, which preserves more of our natural heritage for future generations, will become clearer now that the real facts & figures will be available to all.

This wonderful area is part of the South Downs NATIONAL Park - it should be protected for the whole Nation. There are a number of options (such as a tunnel and the new purple route) that should be considered.
