Stop the Arundel Bypass - Save Arundel's Countryside

As someone who values this part of Sussex and knows the permanent damage done by to landscape and human well-being by this type of ill-conceived development I would urge a fresh consideration of the bypass plan.

We need fewer roads. Our world is breaking. Cars contribute to climate change which is the biggest and imminent threat to humanity. I used to live in Angmering. Can’t believe that this is actually being proposed - please put the money into reducing car use.

Stop damaging what you can never replace ! Road building your way out of congestion has been shown repeatedly to not work and in this case there is an alternative road plan that vastly reduces local congestion at minimal environment cost. Why do planners so often make the wrong decision ?

Is a bypass necessary - one result of covid19 will probably be a decrease in traffic volume

We don’t need more big roads, we need more wildlife habitats and carbon sinks to reverse climate change. This goes against the Government’s declaration of a Climate Emergency. Stop.

I used to live in this area and am shocked and saddened by these proposals. It's criminal to be building roads like this that will destroy communities and our environment-especially when we should be transitioning away from cars in any case. This is a callous and foolish decision.

And what will happen when this destructive new road becomes chock-a-block like all the others? Build another one? Ridiculous choice. "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Arundel (beige) route would be cheaper,quicker, and adversely affect less properties. It makes no sense not to go for that route.

This is the worst possible route for the people of Walberton

It’s a disgrace to choose this route Highways England should he ashamed of their decision.

This is not what the majority voted for, listen to the people, spare our planet.

When the country is in crisis and people are losing jobs and needing government financial help, why would the most expensive option be selected.

The grey route decision beggars belief!!!

To paraphrase Pete Seeger's lyrics 1955 " Where have all the flowers gone " we should now sing: "Where have all the villages gone, Gone to graveyards everyone" 2035 : " Grannie , Grandpa - what is a village ? "

When there are better alternatives why choose this one? Is there something the public have not been told?

The grey route is so damaging it is genuinely a shock it could have even been proposed.

I am strongly against any of Highway England’s proposals and believe it is extremely important to preserve wooded areas, fields and villages to the north and south of the proposed areas. Please please provide a better solution.

This is an outrageous decision and we will oppose it at every step. We have a climate emergency, we are not going to stand by and let beautiful countryside be destroyed in favour of a new road.

Too many cars = too many roads. Too many cars = too much congestion. Too many cars = too much air pollution. The problem is that everyone thinks it is their god-given right to own a motor car and that they would not use public transport even if it was 100% adequate. Reduce the number of cars and stop building outsize housing developments next to roads that are already overwhelmed with traffic. Excess road traffic anywhere poisons the air that we breathe. What kind of population is it that puts its desire to own a metal box on wheels that emits airborne toxins and propels the human body at the kind of speeds it was never designed to travel for fear of a life threatening impact that it is not able to withstand?
