Kent and Surrey councils finally folded and agreed to restrict the heavy lorry traffic destroying our villages. This victory belongs to the 329 people who refused to let these bureaucrats poison our air and ruin our homes. We forced them to act but we will stay alert to ensure they …

We, the undersigned, ask Kent County Council and Surrey County Council:

* To STOPHEAVY TRAFFIC RUINING our BEAUTIFUL, HISTORIC VILLAGES (in and around Chevening, Sundridge, Brasted, Brasted Chart, Westerham, Toys Hill, Ide Hill, Limpsfield and Oxted).

* ToRESTRICT TRAFFIC USING THE A25 AS A CUT THROUGH to by-pass the M25.The M25 is the by-pass. To STOP large lorries passing through our villages except for those making deliveries.

We are anAREA OF OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY.

* ToREDUCE SPEED– both for theSAFETYof residents and to deter traffic. Not one man, woman or child should have to die or suffer before action is taken.

* To MINIMISE NOISE, DAMAGE TO ROADS/PROPERTY, CONGESTION.

We are a CONSERVATION AREA. We have many LISTED BUILDINGS.

* To COMBAT POLLUTION - our air is being POISONED. Many places are far above national ‘safe’ averages in nitrogen dioxide.

* To considerRECLASSIFYINGtheA25 TO B ROAD STATUS. TheA25isNOT A TRUNK ROAD. It is a Publicly Maintainable, Single 2-Lane Carriageway (according to the KCC Road Gazetteer Report of June 2013) .

..................................

IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE: Traffic is increasing. Developments, landfills, new haulage routes - these inflict ever more plight. Misuse of the A25 gives access to country lanes that are being used as rat runs by heavy traffic.

JUSTIFIABLY ANGRY RESIDENTS: We all know this problem has beenSUFFEREDfor many years. WE PAY OUR TAXES and WE VOTEin the people who have the power to make the right decisions and correct the problems, and run this countryin ways that serve theBEST INTERESTS AND VALUES OF THE PEOPLE.We wantACTIONto be taken on the above stated issuesNOW.

Something CAN be done. If we get enough signatures, we have a case with our local MP and county councils.

You can help. Residents, schools, businesses.

If you already have an action group in the area, please get in touch and we can link you in/support you. This is for all of us on and around the A25.

Please add your signature to our petition and spread the word - please ask everybody in your family, all your friends to sign! There are hard copies being signed in local areas too.

We also want to create an INCIDENT LOG to capture bad driving experiences on our roads over the next few months. Please let us know about all near misses, overtaking, speeding, etc, by emailing the petition sponsoron the link above.

Thank you!

We just hit two hundred and fifty signatures and Kent and Surrey councils are still ignoring the destruction of our villages. These bureaucrats think they can keep poisoning our air and crumbling our historic homes while we watch from the sidelines. We are not going away until they shut down this illegal rat run.

Living in sundridge we are experiencing daily problems with the speed and volume of traffic on our roads. We are being kept awake at night due to the speeding lorries and our house is vibrating due to the volume of lorries going past at speed.

The heavy traffic on the A25 exacerbates problems on the London Road. Apart from the large lorries, the sheer speed of traffic coming down from the town towards Biggin Hill, is very dangerous - particularly as it approaches the Zebra Crossing used by Primary School Children and elderly residents

In wholeheartedly supporting the points in this petition, may I also request a notice on the London Road highlighting "Children Crossing" and a reduced speed limit on the approaches to the Zebra Crossing where the children cross to go to Churchill School - now there is no "lollipop person". Traffic is far TOO FAST coming round the corner and down the hill - it is so dangerous. Thank you

Dear Mr/Mrs, I believe M25 was build to alleviate traffic going through historic villages along the A25. Nevertheless, study report issued by Sevenoaks City Council etc in 2003 showed unprecedented increase in traffic that continous to this day. Even though the report has suggested options to delay with such unprecedented increase in traffic such as Chevening junction nothing has happened 10 years after the report. Externalities as result of the traffic do more harm than good. Regards, Martin Forman

Lorries travelling to Cherry Lodge Golf Course are causing a complete mess on the roads. Our pavements cannot cope with these lorries and the force of these lorries passing can nearly knock you off your feet

The lotties speed through the narrow steets causes bottlenecks, pollution and noise.

Very near miss a couple of months ago travelling East between westerham and Brasted. Traffic queuing westbound behind large lorry parked outside the yard selling fencing etc. As I drove past the line of traffic round the bend I was forced to make an emergency stop to avoid colliding head on with a smaller lorry that had obviously pulled out of the line of traffic to drive on the wrong side of the road (at speed) to make a right hand turn across the eastbound side of the road into a farm track. Once I'd stopped I beeped my horn and the lorry driver just made an extremely rude gesture. I was particular upset at this incident as I had my 18 month old son in the car and was also 8 months pregnant at the time. Our family lives on the lower section of Chart Lane and we'd also be very keen to see traffic calming measures between Brasted and Brasted Chart. The road is used as a high speed rat run - particularly dangerous for residents having to use concealed entrances to their homes, and the many cyclists using the lane. The lane has particularly poor visibility on very sunny days for to the effect of the sunlight thorough the very dense trees. Cyclists themselves should also be encouraged to slow down coming down the hill. If there is any impetus to campaign for a slower Chart Lane, we'd be very keen to be involved.
