The school board has officially approved our proposal for cultural excursions beyond the classroom. It is heartening to know that those 267 signatures shifted the conversation toward immersive learning experiences for our students. I look forward to seeing our peers apply their textbook knowledge in the wider world.

Final supporters
Let's get the students outside of the classrooms to expose them to new culture. Why not have them apply what they learned during a fun and educational experience? Why wait till college to go abroad to apply your learning, when you can start now. All the attractions we read about in our textbooks at Somers High School, we can now be there ourselves instead of just reading about it. We as students have the opportunity to embrace what the world has to offer us and now we need the chance to grab the opportunities that are right in front of us. Classrooms are just the beginning of the exciting educational journey that we can embark on.

Reaching one hundred signatures feels like a quiet validation of the idea that our education should extend beyond the walls of Somers High. It is encouraging to see so many people agree that we are ready to experience the world we currently only read about in textbooks.

I have been hearing from many of you about how textbooks often fail to capture the reality of the subjects we study. These conversations reinforce my belief that moving beyond the walls of our school is a necessary step for our education. I am currently gathering information on how to best present this proposal to the administration.

As I freshman, these opportunities are being taken away from me and my class. I hope that maybe we can change things and give not only my grade but underclassman a chance to experience what I've heard so much about!
I went on the Galapagos trip and it was such an amazing experience where I learned a lot about a new culture, improved my Spanish and met new people/created new friendships. These trips do nothing but good things for everyone.
Bring back the itay trip before im out of High School. Thats one of the reasons i took Italian and its a shame to see the trip be removed from the school class trips.
I think it's unfair for us to lose those opportunities. One of my friends saved up enough money to go on the trips next year (she's a junior right now) and she's devastated that they're being cancelled. The best way to learn language and culture is to experience it firsthand.
I recently went to Italy and Spain, and this trip was possibly one of my best experiences in high school so far. I understand that we live in a dangerous world, but it is important not to give in to terrorism's ultimate goal: causing people to live in fear.

The trips were a way for a young and parent-dependent student to experience the world with close friends and peers. Now how do we get that?
