WHEREAS Indiana has a signature requirement for the candidacy to the federal offices of Senator and President; and

WHEREAS Indiana has a signature requirement for the candidacy to the office of Governor of Indiana,

WHEREAS a candidate should demonstrate their ability to work to get elected;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that We the Undersigned, believe that it should be the position of the Indiana Democratic Party that all candidates for United States Congress in Indiana should obtain a minimum of 200 signatures from the congressional district for which they are seeking office; and,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that We the Undersigned, urge our Democratic State House members, State Senate members, and Democratic Governor and Lieutenant Governor should make it a priority to enact legislation that requires a two hundred signature threshold from the congressional district in which a candidate seeks office; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that We the Undersigned, urgethat until such legislation is in place, County, District, and State Party officials work in conjunction to require a two hundred-signature threshold in order to receive any Democratic Party Endorsement.

Updates

June 3, 2016

The growth of this petition has reached a level that necessitates direct engagement with party leadership. I am currently finalizing a formal proposal to be presented at the upcoming executive committee meeting regarding the implementation of these signature requirements.

200 is honestly way to low. if you cant even get that many people interested in your campaign you have no business being on the ballot in the first place.

I agree signatures should be required. There should also be more information about each candidate available by and for party members.

There should be signature requirements for all individuals. Also, we may need to think about asking candidates how they reached the location to turn in forms.

I had to get signatures to run for a local county seat, let alone for congress.
