If we cant get this route right for cyclists, there isnt much hope for less frequented routes.

I cycle on Dale Road every day and always worry about putting my life at risk due to the uneven road surface and being in the way of the cars whilst climbing the hill.

Dale Rd is a major commuter route for staff to and from the hospital. Improving the surface and making space for cycling will only encourage them to switch to cycling, reducing traffic in a very congested part of the city.

6 years ago I worked at SGH. Many years ago I complained to the Council that the cycle lane towards DGH should be extended round the blind corner, where rush hour drivers frequently overtook cyclists, cutting in if they then saw oncoming traffic. I also objected to the mini roundabout on the grounds that it would force cyclists to slow or even stop just when they started to climb a steep hill. The recent minor re-surfacing at the bottom of the hill has done nothing to address these two points, neither was it extended to the dangerous hole at the edge of the drain cover which I had also complained about many years ago.

like so many streets in Southampton this one needs urgent attention especially for vulnerable road users like cyclists

If this road was made safer for cyclists it would encourage more people to cycle to the hospital.

Please sort the roads out and make them safe for cyclists and other road users. If they are not maintained and made safe sooner or later there will be a fatality.

Such bad conditions are exacerbated by dark, wet winter conditions.

I cycle between the main campus and the General Hospital, and Dale Road is one of the worst bits. It is steep, and traffic and road-surface unpredictable.

I regularly cycle down Dale road and despite being a proficient cyclist find it frightening. I have personally given immediate roadside treatment on 2 separate occasions to individuals who sustained injuries which on both occasions required hospital admission and on one occasion surgery. I am sure people will rightly ask why the road condition has not been improved the next time another person is injured or potentially killed, when the council were made aware of the situation.

These measures are urgently required - as it is, Dale Road is not safe for cycling.

people cycling need to have good conditions for that and not be deterred by road conditions

Warren Avenue (the other route from the south) is also dangerous due to the lack of compulsory cycle lanes

Smooth road surfaces are really important for cyclists in busy cities, and a steep incline such as on Dale Road means that accidents are more likely to have serious adverse outcomes. Please fix this!
