Keep the contest fair and consistent-the same strengths and abilities should determine advancement for all rounds without having a new set of rules adn requirements inserted for one round. The entire International contest should be live and in person.

There is a significant difference between performing for the camera and presenting in person. The two requires different skills, and quite frankly, Toastmasters does not specialize in teaching on camera skills. This diminishes the quality and value of the competitions. Does toastmasters specialize in on camera training or audience training? You can't train for one, but set the standard for competition in the other.

Public speaking requires speaking to a live audience. It is no acting a camera. The audience realtime feed back and the speakers command of a stage are a critical part of the presentation. Please keep all contest live, witnessed in person and fairly judged public speaking and not video speaking. The logistics of fair and equal recordings environments would also be impossible to assure each candidate. Poor lighting or audio should not impact a speakers chances in any way. Please maintain a fair live and in person contest at all levels

As soon as event planners, conference coordinators and convention speaker bureau's accept an invoice for a video presentation as opposed to a live one, I will then agree with this decision.

I understand the need to introduce quarter finals. The judging mechanism should be the same as all other contests, however - live and in person for both contestants and judges.

Contests should be live. Video contest will allow a person to redo the video until it is perfect. This negates the ability to overcome nervousness while competing.

If one purpose of Toastmasters is to learn to speak before a live audience, being judged by video recording is counter intuitive. I feel that having quality speakers and speeches at this level being judged by video only deprives speakers of the experience of a live audience, and deprives the audience of hearing important messages.
We exist to help people speak with greater confidence, poise and skill in front of LIVE audiences, not cameras only.
I do not support a recording-only format for the Quarterfinals. Keep ALL contest speeches before live audiences.
