The "50 Shades of Grey" series sparked a revolution of sexual freedom within our minds and bodies. E.L. James dared to explore our most primal of desires and for once; the female gaze was in full force.

We were Anastasia, hungry to satisfy and be satisfied by the steely, sexual dominant, which is Mr. Grey. We lusted after his body and when we eventually began to peel back his icy persona, we fell hard.

So, the question is, why are the filmmakers hiding a part of his truth? Full frontal nudity is an integral part of the story as it is Grey's conduit to awakening Anastasia. Not revealing it would be akin to never showing Spiderman's web or seeing Superman fly.

Because Christian Grey is a superhero, albeit a sexual one. He saves Anastasia who in turn empowers him to confront his demons. And this is what fascinates us so; the naked freedom and repression which those leather straps bring about both in a literal and metaphorical sense.

It is time for our society to not accept rampant glorified violence in films while relegating female sexual expression to the shadows. The straight male gaze is so ingrained within our culture that we have allowed it to become the only true gaze.
