Like Tracy, I have lost everything. Including many family members who chose to believe the stalker's lies about me. From the moment he met me, he had a plan to discredit me and take what I owned. When he wasn't successful at that, he decided to destroy my life, my property and my family connections. There was no help for me. Law enforcement didn't help nor did the courts. It's been over 12 years and it continues even today.. He is a hateful, sick person who delights in causing pain to those he can't control. I don't expect it to ever stop.

Please protect women and children in America! Thank You.

I am in fear of my life. I allowed an ex-husband who is disabled diagnosed with PTSD from serving in Dessert Storm to take shelter in my home because he was homeless. He has stalked me and put cameras and recorders in my bedroom without my knowledge. I received 82 threatening texts in less than an hour. I can not go home fearing for my safety. Something needs to be done. I have no idea where to turn. Came across this and am signing it. Hope it is not too late.

I had my own income for 30 years, but my husband persuaded me to take an early retirement. Within months of my retirement, he disclosed that he was a sex addict. I went into shock, and now without my own income, I was trapped. He cut off bank accounts, he became extremely abusive, and even after I got him to move out of the house, he continued to terrorize me, defame my name, stalk me... When I tried to get an Order for Protection, I was treated as if I was stupid, incompetent, and somehow guilty. THEN, the judge's office told me that my husband had filed a restraining order on me in the next county, and I would have to now go to that court for help. I was horrified. He had fabricated and grossly exaggerated information and the judge had quickly signed his order! Worse: my husband then started harassing me, BUT if I responded I would be arrested. My husband had told the city police that he was going to kill me, he turned off bank accounts, filed police reports that I had stolen "his" money, came to the house and banged on doors and windows screaming that he was going to hurt me, while I was backing my car out of the driveway he accelerated his car and intentionally smashed into me, he shoved me, raged at me, kicked me... My esteem plummeted, my identity shattered, I developed extreme anxiety, PTSD, and depression. After several calls to the police, I finally worked up the nerve to go to the court house to request an Order for Protection. And on that day, when the woman told me that I would have to file in the next county, I felt demoralized, dehumanized, angry, devastated... If I felt this overwhelmed, how in the world could any woman navigate a system that is so hostile, and so cavalier: "Go over to the next county!" What would a woman do if she did not have transportation? If she was a risk for being physically assaulted for attempting to make such a trip? If she could not get childcare? WOW. I'm a victim of cyberstalking and although I have been granted an order of protection we (me and my attorney) are having a hard time getting it enforced by the Spokane Police Department due to how cunning and deceptive my stalker is. I really want to see laws passed that make the process much easier (and helps law enforcement have access to training, etc. so they are better equipped to handle these types of things).

Stalkers are no joke.

Many domestic laws need to be enforced. Too many victims are turned away. I am a single mother who has lost everything, and was offered maybe about 2% help, a food stamp card!

What is needed is on the ground practical support for single women as well as those with children.

Domestic violence not only affects someone physically but also emotionally and mentally. I am survivor of all 3 and will do what I can to stop the madness.

The domestic violence laws have to change.

Law Enforcement in Pennington County SD will not honor my protection order, they think "I let him back in my life". He stalked me and made it so my life was miserable until I said ok come back. But my life still is miserable, it is a living hell. I want out. I want a new protection order. I want to change my identity just so I can move on.

I suffered a horrific act of domestic violence for the first and ONLY time in my life this past January (2014). Fortunately, I have sought out the right places for advocacy and assistance, but there is much improvement and awareness needed in this area. My situation could have been deadly, but fortunately, I was able to get out and get help. The first step should be the penalty to the abuser. In my state a first offense more than likely lets the abuser out on probation or without a charge and is ordered to attend the Batterers Intervention Program. What does this teach the abuser and how does it rehabilitate him/her? It doesn't. No one will change if they don't WANT to. They just do the classes to comply. This crime needs to be "nipped in the bud" at the first offense. Perhaps it may bring more serious consequences to the abuser should he attempt to re-offend. Awareness is key and any person being abused needs to get out and seek help immediately. Don't stay for the children or because you believe that person will change. You mean something - value yourself and those that love you. Get help-it's always been there, everyone cares.

Revenge pornography needs to be strongly looked at. It should not only be a crime but if you have an order of protection the penalty should be greater.

I have been to court twice due to my ex- husband harassing and stalking me. Recently his ex-girlfriend has also filed for an injunction for protection for the same. There has to be a better way for women to get the protection they need from the court system!

Family Court judges, by and large, are under qualified, do not know family law, rely too much on court clerks to write orders and court clerks are often beholding to large legal firms that practice in that Court. I have witnessed my wife attempt to free herself from an ex-husband whom she divorced 15 years ago and child is no longer a minor. She was forced to file bankruptsy, TWICE, in order to survive due to the outrageous legal cost caused by the ex-husband for frivolous reasons. She could no longer afford attorney representation, had to go to Court pro-se, in which she was total ignored, not allowed to submit evidence or even defend ex's unfounded claims. The ex hired the most influencial law firm practicing in that Court and she never had a chance. Please do all you can to take corruption, influence, and un-qualified Judges out of the Family Court system, our children, all with 50% divorce rates are being cruelly treated, all for the legal profits to be had in the Family Courts.

I have been a victims of stalikng for many years by the forces behind my Father's murder, amd more recently by a man with a record of violence. The system needs to be more pro-active in assisting stalking victims.

Why must these people a majority being woman not be afforded protections from harm? most have kids, are they not deserving of a safe environment as well? You really need to start taking these issues seriously!
