The Dean confirmed today that Humanities Out There is fully funded and here to stay. Thank you for signing your name to keep this program alive. Keep an eye on our email updates to ensure the administration follows through on its commitment.
Humanities Out There (H.O.T) is an outreach program that brings students and teachers from Orange High School together in a collective educational enterprise with undergraduates, graduates, faculty, and staff from the University of California, Irvine.
Because of the recent budget cuts to the University of California, there are plans to permanently terminate the program this year.
The purpose of this petition is to inform the Dean of Humanities at UC Irvine, and all other relevant parties, that there is overwhelming support to keep H.O.T. in existence.
Humanities Out There has two goals. Firstly, the program hopes to increase diversity in higher education by providing educational support and encouragement to low-income, culturally diverse, and underserved students at Orange County High Schools. Secondly, H.O.T. aims to promote the general literacy of pre-collegiate students by incorporating an effective and structured education in the humanities.
If you are an advocate of diversity in the university and if you value a strong education in the humanities, then please sign this petition.
The department is still refusing to meet with us about the future of this program. Post the petition link on your Facebook wall today so they can no longer pretend this is just a minor issue.

The momentum behind this petition proves that our community refuses to let Humanities Out There disappear without a fight. Now is the time to turn this energy into action by emailing your local representative and tagging university leadership on Facebook. We have the attention of the administration and we need to keep the pressure high until they reverse these cuts.

My daughter was part of this and it gave her such a boost in confidence. Truly a shame if they end it.
