I am writing to express my extreme displeasure over the recent (and reversible) dismissal of Carol Anne Meehan. This has quickly become "water cooler conversation" in this city, all of which is against this absurd decision. The prevailing theory is that this decision was made outside of Ottawa by those who haven't a clue as to the nature of the market and the people of Ottawa, because had they done any sort of realistic consultation, Carol Anne Meehan would still be the face of the once great CJOH.
Max Keeping in his many years helped to grow the audience in this city, and Carol Anne was his natural successor. There is a tangible connection between these personalities and the city - they aren't simply talking heads, but part of us. You will lose this one - you will lose considerable viewers; this includes me. I had been watching since the late 1970's. No longer. You don't fire a popular and effective anchor and expect good results.
The worst part is the timing. Word on the street is that you knew that Max Keeping, with his clout in the community, would have thwarted this ridiculous move. So you waited until after his death. To say the optics are not in your favour is a massive understatement.
