Age Appropriate Books for Westfield Washington Students

This topic is not age appropriate. I know better than a school administrator when my child is ready to learn about this subject without being confused or even frightened.

I agree it’s important for someone to understand their sexuality, but kids in preK-4th grade still struggle with learning basic English or math. These books will not only confuse them, but start a conversation that is needed between a trusted parent or guardian.

Books in a public library are one thing, but libraries directed to elementary schools should have parent-approved, age appropriate subjects.

I do not support teachers on a public salary indoctrinating and confusing our children. In these times life is hard enough. Counseling departments should have written consent from parents before making these materials available to minor children

That subject is NOT the responsibility of the education system. That should be discussed only by the parents.

We must not take away the rights of parents by letting schools expose students to these very sensitive topics. For many families, like my own, this is a violation of our religious beliefs. Further, teachers should not have to be put into the awkward position of fielding questions and helping young people try to understand something that it so very complex - gender dysphoria.

No to these books

I am not for banning any books as I believe truth and reason can overcome false ideology of any type. However, I am concerned that these books are not allowed to be taken home as this makes me feel there is a lack of transparency and communication between the school and parents regarding a very serious and important topic. I also do want to ensure they are age-appropriate.

Please demonstrate responsible leadership by removing books about gender identity from areas outside of the counselor's office. Seeing these books should require parental consent.

Please remove this type of inappropriate literature from our children’s reading. These are topics that should be covered by parents and when parents believe it is age appropriate.

After reviewing these books, my thought is that there should be an elective class available where these books are discussed by a credited and qualified sex ed. teacher. Parents should be required to sign off on the book list indicating that they know what the class is about and sign a permission form for their child to take the class. Books should be read in class and not removed from the classroom.

Take such book out of library! Such an agenda.

These topics need to be left up to the parents to discuss as they choose.
