Age Appropriate Books for Westfield Washington Students

Our family recently moved into the district, and we’ve heard great things for many years regarding WWS’s ability to cultivate a student’s academic, physical, and interpersonal growth. I believe books addressing gender identity are inappropriate and confusing for elementary aged children, and would not be helpful to their personal growth.

Absolutely do the right thing here. This is not the place or purpose of the public school. This agenda needs to end

Boys are boys and girls are girls no matter how much someone wants to be something else. You are what you were born and nothing you can do will ever change that so don't try and force others to make something abnormal into something normal. This reading list is nothing short of indoctrination, not education.

Two things can be true at once. Gender identity is a hot button issue about which children could benefit from a discussion to help them understand the meaningful details of this issue. Also, it is 100% outside the purview of a public school to assume the responsibility of teaching on such a hotly disputed subject. Our children are in school to gain an education in reading, writing, maths, and sciences; an education that will help them to go further in their education and obtain a good career. Hotly contested current issues have their place in a conversation between adults and children, but the right to that conversation belongs entirely to the parents. Public schools need to stay in their lane. This subject spills over into American citizens' Constitutional Right to religious freedom, which includes the right to rear children in adherence with their respective religious beliefs. If public schools choose to infringe upon the rights of parents by taking a position on controversial subjects that have nothing to do with why our kids are in school, and then attempting to purvey these viewpoints onto our diverse student body with little to no regard for these children's individual belief systems, then Westfield Schools will lose many students to charter schools, and the revenue that comes along with them. We can and should rear our kids to be kind and accepting of their peers and neighbors. This is an acceptable discussion to be had at school. As it pertains to gender dysphoria or other very controversial topics, the parents are the ones who should be having these discussions--not public school teachers, counselors, or administrators.

Keep these books and teaching out of our schools . This dates me, but when I went to school we began the day with prayer, saying pledge that allegiance and sang the National Anthem. Teach love of this country and freedom not to question how God made them

Keep this agenda away from our kids. Stop the attempt to pervert out kids! There are nearly 1,200 signatures and counting. If 1,000 kids left ( along with those tax dollars) left Westfield Schools, the admin would remember very quickly who is in charge...

Age-appreciate material for elementary students is only common sense. Not everything is appropriate for every age.

We need to keep kids innocent. Parents should be able to decide on the timing and be able to teach their values on these issues. After parents speak we can then support them in the classroom and have our councilors help them. If the books help then ok. But it should not be introduced by a random book in the library to kids who might be too young.

I do not approve of these books. It is so wrong and God needs to be brought back into the schools and focus on what this country was founded on and not this ridiculous stuff. They are abusing and mixing our kids minds.

The minds of the youth are precious and when it is not given good clean knowledge then that is a big factor that will form decisions that can be of negative future behavior. We see this in the world of today.

Please keep politics out of the classroom. These books are fine in the counseling office NOT the classroom or shared libraries.

Critical Race Theory, White Privilege and the 1619 Project have no place in any legitimate school curriculum. Let's teach our kids to judge someone based on the content of one's character not the color of one's skin. WWS school's leadership will make the right choice or face a reckoning come next school board elections.

Please do the right thing here for our kids and our families! Don’t let a small minority of people with dangerous views determine policies that go against the majority of people in Westfield.

These materials are confusing for children and cause harm. Children need the guidance of their parents in navigating this world in what is right and wrong and these materials confuse children and lead in untruth.

Let the parents decide if and when to have these conversations with their children.
