Total injustice for a sport that has a great history at this University.

I don't usually sign petitions like this; however, being apart of track for the 4 years I was in college was the best experience of my life so I feel passionate about this. After I graduated, our head coach, Coach Connie Price-Smith and her husband, my throws coach, Coach John Smith moved to Ole Miss. Now I am an active fan of both teams, but it is clear to see that the student-athletes get WAAAAY more "luxuries" at Ole Miss than we ever did at SIU due to having different budgets. Sucky, yes, but that doesn't matter. It's not about the cool shoes, free clothes, and athlete-status. It's about having the experience of a lifetime and being able to be apart of something greater than yourself. Track and Field has always been a sport overlooked because of the small revenue it generates and lack of popularity, but please, for the sake of every single person on that team, the coaches, and all of their fans, find another way to adjust the school's budget. Maybe a fundraiser can help!

It's not fair to make such a huge cute on one sport and not the others. If you do 5%on one then it should be the same for all

As a runner for over a decade now, through middle school, high school, major surgeries, and life I think it is idiotic to cut funding to this program. At least make it an equal cut for all the sports.

how could you basically take away someone's passion and mainly the only reason for being at the school!!!? #KeepTheRunnersRunning

I was a scholarship track athlete from 2000-2004, and the ability for me to achieve that changed my life. I know there is big money on paying for basketball and football coaches and to say there is no money to help dedicated athletes getting scholarships, or even money to fund the program is wrong. The NCAA is a billion dollar corporation. There shouldn't be programs being cut but programs being added or being improved. Let's think of the future of our kids and not the depth of our pockets. GO HILLTOPPERS!!!

It appears WKU only support sports that bring in large incomes. Not the right policy.

This program not only helped me afford college, but changed my life. I will never forget my time at WKU and all of the sweat and tears that went into the track and cross country programs.

Students are coming to the school for athletics, not just basketball. Basketball will take you somewhere but will not take you everywhere.
