The West Carson Transport-Oriented Development (Project No. 2017-003499-(2)) was approved by LA County Planning. The next approval step is the LA Board of Supervisors on Oct 23 2018.

The plan allows for a huge redevelopment of roads, malls and housing in our neighborhood, including multi-story apartment/retail buildings and shops along Carson between Normandie and the I-110.

Unless we act, we will soon be seeing three-story combination apartment/retail buildings close or adjacent to our properties, along Carson, Vermont and elsewhere, totaling 2,455 new residences, with insufficient parking.

Issues this will create for us:

  • Increase in traffic congestion
  • Increased noise pollution
  • Overflow parking into neighborhoods
  • Privacy loss as homes and yards will be overlooked by apartments
  • Obstruction of sunlight by tall buildings
  • Decrease in air quality

Objective 1 of the West Carson TOD Plan is "To ensure the health and safety of residents, employees and visitors". As such we petition LA Supervisor, Mark Ridley-Thomas to review this development and support local residents by limiting the number of new apartments to be built, ensuring each new apartment has sufficient parking, limiting the height of new developments to ensure homeowners privacy and sunlight, and in other ways assess the environmental impact of the development, to ensure quality of life for current residents is not diminished.

I am against any multi-story apartment/retail buildings planned right behind my house. The tall structures will block out our light and affect our privacy. I do not want apartment residents looking into my backyard and windows. Traffic and noise on Carson and Normandie will be worse than it already is.

Seems we only received notice after someone informed the commission that residents were never notified that the area they had lived in for over 20 years was now West Carson and some one not living or voting for us decided we need appox. 2400 new neighbors with out enough parking. And oh yea put them in 3 story units to block views and light.

There is way too much traffic and housing as it is. Fixing our potholed streets and cleaning up the canal need to be addressed instead.

I am totally against any proposed major redevelopment of roads, mall and housing in this area by project #2017-003499-2. I oppose having to see 3 story condos overlooking our neighborhood. We have already had to accept the Construction of 80 single family homes on the Normandie Ave strip creating an increase in the noise created by the tall 2 - 3 story homes. Buses, motorcycles, and truck noises have increased 2 fold because of the reverberation of sound along the Normandie Ave strip!! Adding additional tall buildings will add to the noise. PLEASE do not develop this area!! This is not necessary and would only impact more traffic, population, and more homeless and violence.

This project is too dense for the area! Please visit us and our neighborhood and work with us - not against us!
