Oppose a public pay parking lot at Waverly Belmont Elementary

with all the apartments being built on 12 south, adding a public pay lot would just be the final nail in the coffin of charm in 12 south. plus, public pay parking at an elementary school???? that is like asking for the city to be sued.I can't imagine

Metro public funds will be used to build this parking lot, and I believe this to be an inappropriate use of public resources to benefit a few private businesses along 12th Avenue South.

I am against the pay parking lot in consideration of both the school and its children and the well betterment of the greater surrounding neighborhood.

I walk dog there frequently. It's one of the reasons I moved to the neighborhood. I will be disgusted if they turn it into a parking garage. The area is congested enough.

The city should be preserving green space in the neighborhood not encouraging more traffic

That is the most stupid thing I ever heard of. There is enough development going on and why deprive children of space for physical activity or even school activities outside.

WB Elementary School is an 80-yr-old civic treasure. Adding 77 parking spaces for happy-hour to 3am tavern traffic will denigrate the school's play and open space, endanger children, and disrupt residential life on Caruthers and surrounding streets. This project involves public subsidy for private profit and neighborhood deterioration.

I am sick and tierd of wacthing the peace of the old south Nashville disapere because of the greed of developers who don't really give a damn about the Nashville I grew up in , and why would you want to put a public parking lot anywhere near a school?

Enough with development that changes the character of this neighborhood

A basic precept in Metro Planning started @ 1985 was the open sspace around schools was part of our invenbtory of public space for recreation. W=B is on a limited site and to use it for public parking violatyes the concepts of public recreation open space and the need for open space for school use. If the schools are not programming use during school for that open space that would be admission of utter bankruptcyof how we view the need for a full approach to educating our chikdren becaus eit should include exercise and play.

Children's safety and wellbeing must come first.

My wife and I attended last night's 12 south neighborhood meeting. It was a snapshot of the way the process regarding the "commercial lot" construction on public property has been handeled. No one who could really answer questions attended the meeting. I believe the February 19th meeting at the new police facility on 12th Avenue is critical. It is in an opportunity to confront public officials who are rushing this "solution" through the approval process at the behest of an as of yet unnamed someone. We must notify other neighbood associations of the meeting because if this is allowed to happen here all other neighborhoods will receive a similiar eduation in having ones ox gored. We must have crowds at all public meeting regarding this plan that will give the Fire Marshall ulcers. The truth is that the "problem" being addressed is only a problem because the city is determine to satisfy commercial interest over the interest of homeowners. The parking problem has been created by restaurant owners with Metro's blessing. Building facilities without honestly addressing the parking needs can be laid at the feet of Metro and the building owners. The city does not need to endanger children so they can address a problem that has been created by establishments that remain open until 3:00 am in the morning. Changing the Metro code to force restaurants serving alcohol in close proximity to residential areas to close before midnight will solve most of the so-called parking problems. Drunks have historically had problems with parking and with driving. Lets start there before agreeing to this silly use of public land. Jim Stringer
