HB2439 is Detrimental to Texas Cities

Same concerns as others regarding this Bill. Why can a city not regulate the aesthetics of its community to attract development and diverse groups?

I urge you to veto this poorly written and overbroad bill. This will have innumerable unintended consequences and possibly interfere with contracts and other land devlopment agreements. I am speaking as a land use attorney, urban planner and Assoc. Professor of Practice at texas A&M urban planning program—deeply immersed in the field, with 28 years of experience. I am happy to be a resource to explore what the issues are and how to correct them. Thank you!

This law will kill the character and aesthetics of our cities. Please veto this bill.

I support the recommendation of our mayor.

Thank you for considering my signature for the support on this veto. In a small and upcoming town such as Manvel, Texas, HB2439 will have devastating effects on how our town builds from the ground up. I'd like the Governor to consider how close our local officials are to our constituents and how important it is for them to continue to be involved with local government. This power taken away from us will put a divide between us and the constituents and they will have no reason to support us. Why would they if we can't help them keep their cities aesthetically pleasing? Thank you for your consideration.

I do not agree with the bill. You have been a great governor, don’t mess up now.

Leave local design decisions with local government. These decisions do not belong at the state level.

We are proud to live in a city with beautiful architecture and strict guidelines. That is why we moved here.

I’m a resident, former city employee, and work with developers on a daily basis who constantly state, “Tell Us What You Want” so they can plan and design for it. They want to design for their community. What the Governor just passed it the opposite of that.

Beautiful and durable building materials may cost more initially, but not over the life cycle of the products. Price sensitive or short-term focused neighbors can quickly ruin the aesthetic beauty of a community by choosing inappropriate or inconsistent products (even though they may be safe).

This bill limits communities all over Texas to have an identity that matches the desires of it's citizens. Please veto this bill.

Please veto this bill. The value of local communities is crucial to the success of the state. This bill does nothing to continue the spirit and charm of those communities.

Maintaining the character of a town is key to maintaining property values, both of which are created via strong zoning and ordinances. Passage of this bill is the recipe for a drop in state, county and local taxes.

It’s truly appalling that this bill has made it to the governors desk. I trust that he will have the wisdom to veto this bill.

People respond to the beauty that is around them or to the lack there of. Do you want to live in a place without any charm or soul? Texas already has too much ugliness. Please, think about future generations.
