HB2439 is Detrimental to Texas Cities

Please veto

HB2439 will have a disastrous effect on property values, surely that's not the intended result.

No to outside control - we control our own city!

This bill would undermine all local heritage and aesthetics that the CITIZENS and CONSTITUENTS of the locality impose upon themselves. Please let this particular issue be governed at the local level through local elections and due process. This bill allows all local flavor to be completely standardized statewide and will have significant negative impacts both in property value and political capital.

Please veto. This will destroy years of planning by citizens and property owners.

Let the cities control their own identity.

This is intrusion into a city’s right to self-determination and Christmas for developers.

This bill will significantly affect cities and how they look today. At a minimum aesthetics should be considered to avoid a decrease in value and curbside appeal of cities. Residents and business owner gravitate to those cities that manage growth and expectation responsibly. I tend to believe if property owners understood what this will mean for the cities that they live in and what new buildings could look like, they would support vetoing the bill and reworking it in a manner that provides some sort of oversight from cities.

This is a catastrophically bad bill. I serve as a zoning appointee in Dallas. I cannot overemphasize the harm this brings to us.

Not being able to regulate aesthetics is reasonable in some areas but detrimental in others. Communities should be able to decide what their communities look like, and regulating aesthetics in special areas like historic town squares or special tourist/themed areas should be up to a community.

Strongly against this change. Please do not sign, Gov. Abbott.

Stop taking our rights to govern our own cities. We know what’s best for our citizens. How can you effectively legislate, when you see numbers, not faces. We are the closest level of government to the citizens of Texas.

This is an unfortunate bill, apparently drafted by someone who has no clue about the qualities that contribute to our built environment.

This bill would remove local government rights to determine the aesthetics that the community wants. This is an overreach on the part of the state. Home rule cities should have the right to determine building materials and the desired aesthetic of their community. Please do not sign this bill.

I strongly oppose this bill

This bill will put historic buildings and districts at risk. It's not a good idea on any level.
