HB2439 is Detrimental to Texas Cities

I sincerely hope our Governor has the foresight to veto this bill that will likely lead to our communities being constructed using the minimum National Building Codes. We need to build our communities with local, sustainable materials, such as masonry and concrete to promote longevity and to help resist the affects of natural disasters. The best way to do this is through the implementation of construction building codes.

Brick and stone are absolutely the best, most economical and safest products to clad your home with.

The state should not regulate the city UDC. If we want our City to have guidelines and be able to control what comes into our city we should make that decision at the local level not in Austin!

This threatens the long-range tax base of every city and every property owner. Big government cronyism from Austin attacking local government. SMH. Time to get rid of these big government hacks bought by developers. Long term, this will ensure that property taxes get raised and cities are FUGLY.

Please veto this poor legislation.

This bill will destroy the future of our city not to mention the past 10 years of planning, zoning and a Unified Development Code.

In representing private developers, Planned Development Zoning is often used to assure homeowners and other stakeholders that the project will be built as presented. This bill breaks an important element of trust essential to the development process. The bill undoes zoning agreements among neighbors made decades ago. Please veto this bill.

If they really are focused on safety then they would have stricter masonry codes, Vinyl siding is a hazard to the residence and fire fighters during a structure fire… Texas is known for wind, hail and Tornadic conditions it has been proven that masonry is safer under those conditions, so we are not all about aesthetics but very much about safety… Most homeowner do not have a clue on how a home is built and does not understand about the materials used. Example: first time home buyer new home and monthly payment fits their budget…. New home no maintenance needed… Wrong…. Just in a short few years Siding needs to be replace and painted, wood becomes rotten, pressed board siding is deteriorating and needs replacing… The outside of the home is in bad shape it becomes overwhelming they don’t have the money to replace or repair, the neighbor becomes undesirable; neighborhood after neighborhood across the state of Texas….. I cannot believe the head of state wants this for our great state. Someone is not thinking this through!

I am an architect in Dallas. I think HB2439 will be detremental to the built environment in Texas, and eliminate thoughtful provisions enacted by local jurisdictions. It is also another example of the state government usurping local control.

Local professionals should be able to establish their own ordinances.

This is a Bad Bill and would jeopardize every community in Texas with not only the value of the community but the integrity and built environment with sustainability and quality of life.

The Hyatt Kansas City Missouri was designed to Code minimum and collapsed killing 120 people. Municipalities Should be able to set standards and safety. Code minimum is proven disastrous and careless.
