HB2439 is Detrimental to Texas Cities

Please do not pass the legislation. It will be detrimental to the construction industry in Texas.

This bill is a big step backwards in the natural evolution of the built environment and denies Texans a chance to strive for better cities.

We want quality buildings, not just the bare minimum.

If this bill goes through Texas will be ruined!

Do not sign! Most cities are trying to require quality construction. Please veto this bill!

Bad for Texas!

Please veto this bill as it is egregiously detrimental to the State of Texas, constituent quality of life, and municipality economic viability. It is also unenforceable, conflicts with copious building code regulations, and ignores provisions of updated code provisions.

This bill will be extremely detrimental to the preservation of Texas' architectural heritage. I urge you to veto it.

This Bill is discouraging community citizens away from taking ownership, pride and sense of responsibility for their neighborhoods. If it's not up to local cities to determine what is a good building and what is best for their neighborhood identities, then they will no longer participate. They will be more unengaged, more apathetic towards their community.

The character and authenticity of a place is determined by the specific history and uniqueness of it's neighborhoods and people. Do not take away the ability of individual neighborhoods and cities to decide for themselves what is most important to them. Local groups are fundamental in maintaining the uniqueness and beauty of their places. They know their communities better than state and federal governments do.

HB2439 is a horrible idea.

We should strengthen our Building Codes, not dilute them.

This bill will destroy the aesthetic character and quality that make each Texas town and city unique. This bill will prohibit city governments from regulating how buildings looks, thus removing many of the aesthetic qualities that attract people and businesses to Texas.

This poorly drafted bill would do tremendous damage to our cities, our citizens, and our economy. It will undermine the will of the people when it comes to keeping new construction harmonious with historic areas, ensuring quality and value on small lot sizes, or negotiating elevated standards as part of economic development projects. Governor Abbott, please veto this bill.

This is an overreach of the State. We all must meet the bare minimum requirements of the code, so that protects the Public in that sense. Greater restrictions imposed by the Local Municipalities protect the rights of the community to shape and affect the places they live and work everyday. You must veto HB2439.

As a professional in the construction industry I politely ask you to refrain from signing HB2439 into law. I'm afraid my livelihood would be adversely impacted as a building manufacturer's rep.

Please veto this bill. It is detrimental to local safety and design.
