I think both sides should present their side of the story and then the members and the board may weigh the reasonableness and the risks of these recent decisions.

If the Board truly cared about improving the badminton programs which Calvin and his group have run extremely well for over 40 years, what didn't the Board survey the membership for their input first? There seems to be a hidden agenda here. I have been a member of the VRC for 47 years. My teenage son has been participating in junior training program for about 10 years. Calvin and Morgan have provided excellent coaching and skills training and have attended many junior tournaments to provide extra coaching for my son and all of the other juniors in their programs. They are both excellent role models for our kids. We are very fortunate to have Calvin and his team and I think this "review" is a total disaster.

Calvin and the VRC coaching staff have been foundational force in the sport of Badminton in Canada, bringing decades of experience and significant results to the sport. The current proposal by the Board seems to benefit some members of disproportionately and need to be seriously reviewed for conflicts of interest.

The VRC from its inception was to be used for badminton play but also provide a low cost entry for juniors to take lessons and develop skill in our favorite sport. Calvin for over the forty years I have know him has performed these duties better than anyone in badminton today . In addition, Calvin adds a diversity to coaching that is exceptionally lacking in badminton. We have used his approach to coaching for the last 17 years and can say it has been very successful. I fail to see how the Board's proposed changes will benefit ALL members of the club - the changes appear to only benefit a select group of members.

The latest example of bad judgement by this Board. Time for each of you to resign in shame.

I am appalled at the treatment of the coaching staff (of over 40 years) by a few of the board members who clearly have their own agenda. Calvin has produced numerous Provincial and National Champions over his 40+ years of service, and has coaches 1000s of juniors / adults of many ages to a much better ability level (including myself). The reckless and short-sighted decisions of a few board members could ultimately destroy VRC. Membership will be divided, the junior program could be decimated, and the club itself could be at risk of losing everything over a few narrow minded board members. A lawsuit would financially ruin the club. The actions of the few board members are unfairly destroying the reputation of an outstanding head coach. Don't let the mindset of a few self-serving board members represent the thoughts of the entire club. Take action to remove these board members before they destroy VRC. Calvin has had an outstanding career both inside and outside of VRC. Do your part in removing the cancerous board members from VRC. My heart goes out to VRC and Calvin all the way from Ottawa Ontario!!!

Who ever your are, you are incorrect...Calvin gets a small retainer from club. He contributed the surcharge for non-members lessons back to the club. Better know the facts before you comment!!!

Love the coaches who taught my child to play and love badminton, now I started playing and became a member.

I am unaware of all the sides of this situation, such as what is the nature of contract language with Calvin, what disatisfaction was there with badminton program, what performance management steps were taken, what is overall objective, risk/reward, cost/benefit .... but really seems to be an extremely poorly considered and executed course of action especially given Calvin's contributions and accomplishments over the years. As a squash player, uninvolved and distant to any issues/rumblings with badminton I was reticent to participate in this petition. Upon reflection, I feel it is important to speak up in full support of this petition and concerns it raises.

The way all this was handled was very unprofessional and a lack of regard to a tenured coach who was and still is well loved and respected member of the badminton community. The members should have also been advised and asked for their input since the change was not only drastic but significant.

This action shows an incredible lack of competency on the part of the current board. Especially in light of Reed's comments below, it seems now is the time for an additional petition to remove the entirety of the board who were in favor of this move to remove Calvin. There is no level on which this was not a terrible and poorly thought out decision. They somehow managed to show an incredible lack of human decency while putting the club at risk of bankruptcy, and outraged a majority of the memberships all simultaneously. It's quite the feat. It's time for a fresh start.

Calvin Holoboff has been the backbone of high level Canadian badminton on the West coast. He is the mentor who led me to achieve my Canadian National Champion Title. - Joshua Liu
