My daughter will be graduating this Spring. As a midyear transfer student, she has always felt she missed out on a lot of the pomp that was showered on students when they first begin their studies at UNCA. She has been excited about the tradition of walking across the quad and looking over the mountains as she goes to collect her diploma. She is now in the position of having to choose who she can invite and who she has to tell that they cannot come. She is even more concerned for her friends who have to make bigger choices because of the size of their families. Don't take away a tradition that these graduates have long looked forward to.

It's absolutely ridiculous to think we pay thousands of dollars a year to have limited seating to graduation. Bigger venue, more people and more UNCA pride!

That chunk is much larger than 80. 80 might actually be the number of people who need LESS than 4 out of a ~600 student class...

The thing is even SGA was given next to zero say in this decision. I will leave a lengthy but revealing quote from a Senior SGA Senator: "One of our Senators asked if our opinion mattered and we were informed it really didn't and they were just checking off the boxes to make it seem like they had student input. I felt we were extremely misled by Urgo and when I said I did not feel comfortable voting for anything on behalf of the whole senior class Urgo did not listen. Multiple SGA members told Urgo if they wanted student involvement then they should have had students on the panel that had been discussing graduation for the past several months. They had already made their decision. SGA was not given the choice of a venue off campus, many students felt uncomfortable expressing their opinions, and also there was no formal vote. We literally just raised our hands when asked if we would be alright with it being moved inside. As a senior I fought it the whole time. To me it feels as if Urgo came to SGA as a fallback for when he released this crap info. SGA ultimately had nothing to do with it. It seems we were his scapegoat apparently."
This comes down to Chancellor Joe Urgo and his office being out of touch with the student body plain and simple.

The SGA should have consulted the student body before moving forward with this decision, since this traditionally has only been the option used for inclement weather and even then the 2018 class would like to consider a bigger venue if and should this occur.

Please consider a different approach to allow more family members. My child is the first to graduate in my immediate family and her closes family members have all been part of her jeourney and will love to be there for her on this big day. Allowing only 4 people will not even be enough tickets for her grandparents.

Myself and many other students have already had family members make plans to come to graduation and I would really love for them to be able to come. Only allowing 4 tickets per student really hinders the celebration around such a big accomplishment and some other arrangement needs to be made.

My husband is graduating in the spring and his family alone is larger than 3 plus myself. It is unfair to put this extra stress on students who have families that are larger than 4. Thank you and please consider a different approach.
