It is essential for fish, wildlife and humans that we protect our tree canopy. Trees cool city streets and homes in a warming climate, filter stormwater and air pollutants, and sequester carbon. Our county needs a comprehensive urban forestry program to protect our natural resources and guide smart development.

Trees in unincorporated Washington county definitely need some protections. A spectacular Coastal Redwood about 90 years old was cut down here this summer to make a driveway for four new houses to be built someday. Plan could easily have moved the driveway to the other side of the lot!!!!
Neighborhood petition to save it was completely ignored. It was a pitiful shame. Should be a crime.

I was born and raised in Washington County, and have seen the rampant unchecked destruction of tree canopy by housing developers. At this pace, our precious neighborhoods will be paved and barren within the decade. It is simply unsustainable.

With recent wind storms and the impact of housing developments on old tree root systems we are seeing more and more failed and fallen trees in our communities. We need to consider how development can damage our trees and work towards protecting them

It's imperative that we protect habitat for the wildlife in Washington County, and reduce heat islands to combat climate change. I've lived in Cedar Mill for 14 years and have seen so much development wipe out wildlife habitats. We know what is happening, and can't pretend to ignore the effects of unsustainable developments on climate change. Beaverton and the rest of Washington County should be climate leaders, not complicit to developers.

This is sad that an online petition has to be sent. With climate change I can’t believe you aren’t taking protection of natural resources more seriously. Stop prioritizing business and don’t hide behind ‘we need housing’, I doubt those developments have any affordable homes.

This is critical. These large native trees, some hundreds of years old, offer so much to our human animal and plant environment. Once they’re destroyed, they’re gone for generations if not forever. Please help
