Keep Dundee Safe - Stop the Farnam Street Roundabouts (Victory by unanimous vote!)

Living at 49th Ave for almost 34 years, it is long past due for permanent 2-way traffic. The proposed roundabouts are highly unsuitable for our neighborhood. They will make our walkable community unsafe and will place many pedestrians and drivers in harms way. It will also cause major traffic issues. What about firetrucks and ambulances, how are they to quickly navigate a roundabout in an emergency? 50th and 52nd on Farnam are a major thoroughfare for rescue vehicles traveling North and South. Traffic light timing changes have already made a significant improvement in driver and pedestrian safety, and are much appreciated. Let's keep the charm and safety in our neighborhood where it belongs.

I hate roundabouts they are clumsy and hard to negotiate

Round abouts waste of money. Just make streets two way all day.

Please, just change Farnum to 2 ways all the time for 6 months. If there is a traffic problem then consider the roundabouts. There will surely be a traffic problem while the roundabouts are being built. DO NOT waste our tax dollars to fix a problem that likely does not exist.

I do not support the installation of roundabouts on Farnam Street.

School children navigating the roundabouts on the way to and from school are a legitimate concern. Why not try Farnam with two way traffic for a period of a year before going to the expense and disruption to the neighborhood of creating roundabouts.

I attended the meeting with 2 of our city council and many residents regarding the roundabouts. I don't understand why the residents don't have a say in the roundabouts. Someone said why can't they turn Farnam back to 2 way all the time and one of the City Council stated "That was not one of the options" That says the residents opinions of Dundee are not important. I sincerely hope they keep that in mind when elections come up

Keep Dundee walkable! These will be a nightmare for all of the children walking to school. Full-time 2 way and the red light delays are sufficient to solve our issues without any need for roundabouts.

This is a major street in the city, roundabouts are for neighborhoods. Treating it like it is a issue where you would reconstruct the entire street versus just change the flow of traffic to be more resident friendly, it seems like an over-correction on the part of the city council to try and relay that entire street. I always say be careful what you wish for though, look how involved they're getting in the situation instead of just dealing with the timing of those lights or listening to the public and the studies that have been done, still pushing to totally change the street. Sounds like a money situation to me. Who's benefiting from that construction project?

As a pedestrian, I can attest to roundabouts being unfriendly to foot traffic.

There are way too many walkers especially children that will not be able to safely cross roundabouts in our neighborhood. The roundabouts will also destroy too much private property in both locations.

This is a bad idea based on the data, and unnecessary.

Roundabouts and pedestrians are always very tricky. With school kids crossing that street, a required stop at a red light gives kids a much safer chance of crossing than dealing with drivers who are uncertain about roundabouts. The roundabout at happy Hollow leading into Elmwood Park is a good example. We use the roundabout crosswalk many times a week, and cars don’t always yield to pedestrians, or to traffic already in the roundabout. The confusion in this situation would be amplified considerably by the weird lane shifts already happening on Farnam Street. From what I have read, the light timing changes and work from home has decreased the number of people driving downtown, so it does not make sense to add roundabouts to the these intersections.

I do not support this proposal at all

I walk around my Dundee neighborhood multiple times a day with my small children. I also frequently go for runs, crossing Farnam several times. I fear trying to navigate a roundabout in the neighborhood, both for myself and with my small children. Please do not implement this project.
