Kirkland planners are not balanced in their recommendations and all new proposals amount to an unconstitutional taking of property rights. This is not just an issue for shoreline owners, it effects all property owners who want to retain a community that serves its residents and not others outside our community. If our elected local body doesn’t see it and reject all new regulations we need to get more formal, raise funds and bring legal action against the City. Intrusion on individual property rights has gone too far and lacks any sound public policy interest. Be suspicious that the real influence behind the proposed new regulations are the army of industry consultants and professionals that thrive off the business of land use permitting.

There should not be a cost penalty of removing covered moorage every time a property owner wants to complete a substantial remodel.

Would also like the city to please put more safety buoys in for swimmers around Waverly Beach park dock as I often see people in the water right in the path of ski boats. Thanks! Kari

The 50% trigger for upland improvements is very ill advised. It penalizes homeowners trying to improve their properties with arbitrary requirements that do real harm. If the City wants to change the current plan, they need to show how the changes improve the lake and harm no one.

City Planners have designed and proposed many punitive regulations that are not in line with most current 'best available science". Furthermore they are proposing regulations or have proposed regulations that were approved by council a few years ago but never vetted with the stakeholders that are having their property rights violated by such code amendments such as the 50% trigger. This is unconstitutional and the planning staff has been warned but still are avoiding the potential liability that will affect all city residents if the stakeholders were to sue the city. Who are the planners representing here? Why is the council letting them get away with this?

I support this petition. I ask the Kirkland City planners to reconsider the SMP proposal and listen to Lake Washington homeowners who have a VERY vested interest in the environment and ecosystem. Please involve us more deeply in your plans before you create economic impacts and devalue property.
