Oppose Statewide Property Taxes and State Control of Zoning

Oppose increase the property taxes

We are diametrically opposed to SB171 and SB1024.

I am in favor of local control and decisions affecting my town- we can work within our own organizations to make housing more available to those who need it.

We must stop this constant cycle of tax and spend. We have the 47th worst fiscal health of the 50 states! The dead enders in Hartford care not as simple power is their goal.

Please do not take away greenwich’s current zoning rules. It would change the entire look of our town and degrade properly values. We need to solve development problems ourselves and are very capable to do so. Thanks

No need for a new tax, and it is offensive to call it a mansion tax, we , the people are not stupid.

A $300,000 house is not a mansion in Connecticut. Open your eyes

This bill, if enacted, creates a race to the bottom, i.e., the less populated areas would in time be like the those overpopulated.

CT is over taxed. Stop this liberal left (communist) experiment with Democracy.

Cannot afford another tax

The state imposition of a tax on all homes over $300K means Greenwich and other places where there are no homes under $300K will be disproportionately taxed. The misconception is that in these towns higher salaries are earned but that isn’t necessarily true, it just means a larger % of persons income is going to pay for housing. This would increase that %. It’s already hard enough for lower middle and even middle class (Ie single parents, blue collar workers, etc.) to buy in these towns, adding this tax will make it even harder. Adding addl rental units won’t help bc tenants will just be out bid by people leaving city. If low income housing only it pushes out lower middle class bc they won’t be able to afford to purchase home and pay higher taxes. Resulting in an even greater disparity in the towns where low income and high income have homes but the middle class may not. The misconception is that the bill is taking from those able to afford a home and giving it to those who cannot for the purpose of rentals. However, there is no assurance that the benefit will actually flow to those who need it, rather to the landlords and those constructing not the renters themselves. In Greenwich there is diversity but primarily in a few specific schools and parts of town, this bill in Greenwich would not help to change this. Think of something else legislature to spread diversity, I’m happy to provide ideas!

Property tax is unfair and a poor answer

Mayor Elicker, of New Haven, has made such an outlandish comment in respect to this new proposed bill. Raising taxes, creating new taxes for the hardworking people of “towns like Greenwich, New Canaan, and Woodbridge” is absolutely ridiculous and I take offense to the baseless allegation that these towns are “keeping out people of color.” Show me some facts that is remotely accurate and stop accusing hardworking people of having some type of grudge against anyone, again noting that the Mayor named these as “people of color.” Why should we be victimized and taxed higher for your political agenda? I work tirelessly as a Medical Doctor in my community and have never victimized “people of color” the way Mayor Justin Elicker has. Note that he is the one fighting for this proposed bill and he alone is using the words “zoning to keep out people of color.” We are all doing our very best to live a purposeful and community driven life in Connecticut. Regardless of color, or the city in which we reside. Don’t allow a bill to be passed that penalizes public servants(speaking to my profession) and ALSO “people of color.” Again quoting the Mayor of New Haven.

Everyone needs to rise up or this country is toast. We will become the communist states of America.

Please oppose the confiscatory "mansion tax" and zoning bill.

I'm a senior citizen on a fixed income. This tax would be outrageous. What are they thinking?
