SB 1024: This sounds like a developer’s dream. Get rid of local oversight; build substandard housing; clear-cut trees; increase paving and traffic; decrease air quality; decrease living / breathing space; decrease the flora and fauna numbers. Result: people pay top tier pricing for housing that isn’t top tier; lose their trees and greenery (some people think this is vital); have to pay higher taxes for inadequate resources. Who foots the bill? The middle class. The rich stay rich. The poor stay poor. We should reconsider. There are better ways to provide housing. There are better ways to serve everyone equally. We can do this.

I strongly oppose bills SB171 and SB1024 that impose statewide property taxes and state control of zoning. A new statewide tax would be economically crushing to our family and to the many families in our community. The current property tax that we pay is in itself already quite burdensome. Increasing property tax would only serve to make many families rethink living here and relocate elsewhere, to a community with less of a tax burden.
SB 171 and SB1024 are anti-American and an overreach of unelected bureaucrats into our local communities. the best run communities are the ones run locally.

Greenwich is a community oriented town. We support our neighbors and have strong community spirit and ties. Our taxes are high as it is and state involvement is always a disaster

We should not be taxed on homes that are more than $300k, these types of homes are not and should not be considered as a mansion!! We are just trying to survive in this Pandemic! Why should we pay more taxes cause the state lost money. We should not be cited and have to pay more taxes when people are not working, and loosing their homes to the world wide pandemic.

This is an abuse of power. I vehemently appose this/these bills and the way in which they are being pushed through without the taxpayers’ proper notification or understanding. It is crucial that this railroading by partial interest groups be stopped. These are our towns and municipalities and local laws must apply.

Nearly every home in Fairfield county is assessed for over $300,000, so the bill would effectively tax ALL homes, not just those of the (truly) wealthy. Didn't the Democrats' American Rescue Plan just funnel many billions to CT as a bailout, so why is yet another tax needed? CT should be overflowing with surplus dollars now. Furthermore, subordinating city and town control to state zoning control is very dangerous and bound to result in harm to many localities and residents.

The over-development of the Glenbrook area in Stamford is outrageous and we are planning to move out of the area soon. Beware restricting local zoning control. It will NOT end well.

Yet another attempt to hurt hard working people in the State of Connecticut by making it even more difficult to live here. Politicians in support of this should be investigated for potential bribery by real estate developers' lobbyists.

I’m considering moving from CT to a more tax friendly state. These taxes are becoming a burden to those approaching retirement. We’d love to stay in CT but we don’t have to when our retirement funds will go further in another state

The Looney bill (171) is a tax on Fairfield County from New Haven. No mansions for sale for $300k (or even $1m) around here.
