Oppose Statewide Property Taxes and State Control of Zoning

I strongly oppose this proposal.

It’s a ridiculous proposition on its face. In essence, it penalizes municipalities that have been fiscally responsible with their budgets for years and arbitrarily seeks to penalize good governance. It makes more sense for those municipalities with systemic fiscal mismanagement for decades, like Bridgeport, to have an Avenue to renegotiate their crushing debt obligations caused by their Union and pension liabilities. Decades of ridiculous give aways have left these cities with no tax base and urban flight.

I am a senior that’s barely making it. I worked all my life to get the things that I needed. My home is not a mansion if you keep raising our property taxes I would be forced to moved probably somewhere else where I won’t feel safe. Because of this pandemic families are hurting most people are unemployed and without medical insurance this is certainly not the time to impose higher taxes of any kind or any drastic changes in our community!

No new property taxes or increases to mill rates. “Mansion” tax at $300k is ridiculous, you can’t purchase a home in Greenwich fro less than $750k and it’s far from a mansion. In fact it’ll need renovations.

How about moving the tax to assessed properties over 1 million.

You have set the bar much too low. It will impose a "Mansion Tax" on retirees and residents on a fixed income whose homes are anything but "mansions"

I oppose the SB 171 and SB 1024 Acts.

Connecticut will continue to shoot itself in the foot with higher taxes on and put a wedge between its citizens.

These bills will greatly diminish the reasons that we live in the state of Connecticut and the town of Greenwich. If the life style that we have become accustomed to changes drastically we will probably leave the state as many others have done.

We just cannot take more taxes We are already taxed on cars and property for every inch of land

I can’t afford to be taxed with more taxes, and the zoning law is just ridiculous.

This will be substantially impact our towns and hard working people of CT. Everyone will surely move from CT if this Bill is past. Also, shouldn’t everyone me focused on more pressing issues that are timely, then wasting precious time on something so absurd!

I strongly oppose SB 171 and SB 1024. A state-wide property tax will only further erode our ability to attract and retain residents and corporations to grow our economy. Planning and Zoning belong with local governments who know what is best for its residents.

These bills must be dropped. They are not in the best interest of the residents of this state.
