I would urge all elected officials to reject any effort to impose a statewide property tax as well as any state control of local zoning laws.

The bill sound more theoretical and text-book than real world. What problems are they really trying to solve and can the authors prove that the problems exist throughout the state? The authors should draw a rendering of a before and after with various scenarios of what it would look like. It will destroy our towns and neighborhoods. The bill will also destroy the homes and equity for all those that have risen from poverty and through years of hard work were able to buy a home for their family. The bill will strip the equity and all of those achievements away. Those that pay taxes will leave CT. Those that pay taxes and stay, will get poorer and poorer.

I am a Realtor. The average sale price in Stamford is $535,000. These homes are definitely not mansions and any additional real estate taxes will be a significant burden to both buyers and sellers.

I imagine almost all houses in my area of CT (or even all of CT) are valued at over $300,000. That does not make them a mansion. I know my house is not a mansion, valued at about $500,000. And I already pay plenty of taxes on it.

Land use planning requires engineering and design judgement based on a variety of factors. Over regulation historically results in unintended consequences which could have been avoided by relying on the judgement of engineers and design professionals.

Look who is really behind this, sounds like someone with developer backing. I am 100% opposed to these bills. Btw I do not thinking our zoning laws are discriminatory.

CT generated more tax revenue during the pandemic than before and people of means are fleeing the state. If $300K is a mansion that the average working class family in Stamford is elite and deserves to have their wealth seized by the state. Let's also bleed the retirees with another unplanned cost for which they receive no benefits.
