Seriously... spend all sorts of money making our quaint downtown area look so nice and classy, only to end up slamming that crappy looking eyesore to the middle of it all? Give yourselves a shake!!

The plans need to be amended. This is not a fit for our Main Street now or ever. Mid rise would be the only way.

I am not a verse to change but having grown up in town this would completely change the look, feel and charm of downtown. This wouldnt only impact downtown but the entire area with such a large building.

Source: I had the chance to discuss the project one on one with one of the lead developers where he explained all the issues associated with the building. Including the structurally unsound nature of it and the fact that they wanted to use the original bricks but were told they would not be able to get the place insured if they did. The fact is we either rebuild it. or we let it crumble until we are forced to take it down.

I have followed the progress of this development closely, from the beginning. I am stunned that at this late date Silvercreek has no intentions of saving the facade of the McGibbon Hotel. The process for reusing brick is simple, established, and doable. We have been had. Expect me. And a host of others. Very disappointed. Council has nearly lost my trust. As to Dennis Mckinnon's "structurally unsound" and"ugly bricks" post: First, get your facts straight. Second, subjective aesthetic opinion is not an argument.

The McGibbon is quite frankly becoming a run down wreck and an eye sore. What's more its not structurally sound any more (hence why the building does have to come down). But these developers are part of Georgetown not fat cats from the city. They have made it clear that they are intent on REBUILDING the McGibbon to its former glory and create a renewed Gem in the heart of our town. We are lucky to have a group so dedicated to preserving the town going to the extents of looking for matches to the original bricks. Compared to the destruction of the two historic building on the other corners only to be replaced by ugly brick banks. This will be good for our town.

Georgetown barely has any history left in the way of looks. Its a part of history and I don't think they should be able to destroy the last bit of history that Georgetown has left

What is the point in registering a historical site to keep it preserved and safe when local government just overturns those decisions in favour of pre-fab high rises and a quick buck, infuriating.

........it most certainly does not have to br so drastic to uproot buildings that exude such character & charm.The Mcgibbon is one..and only...Halt all talks on twisting small town Ontario into a cookie cutter crap sandwich...

Retention of the original outer walls of the landmark building called the McGibbon Hotel is essential to retaining the streetscape character of Downtown Georgetown. Replica walls of the Gibby does not cut it. Replication is done in Disneyworld, but does not belong in Georgetown.

Save the heritage building, build the condo's behind the McGibbon, stepped down along Mill Street. Many examples exist of our heritage saved and new build abutting the heritage building.
