Just strolled Main Street (in town from the States, visiting my mother in law). Noticed how great old downtown Georgetown looks. Quaint and historic. Then saw the sign for this development. It is wholly inappropriate DUE TO THE HEIGHT. It dwarfs Main Street as it is. If they just took off four or five stories it would be fine. If that’s not good enough for the developers, them Georgetown would actually be better off just tearing the hotel down and making a pocket park. At least the whole downtown wouldn’t be ruined that way.

It’s wonderful we have been able to band together and save this landmark. It looks great standing as a tombstone to days gone by. Yayyyy team. In the mean time let’s continue to fund and promote the application of stucco over every storefront on Main Street with public money.

Why is there no detail in the brick work like the old building? The added detail would only cost a little and would save the look of the down town

Two concerns:
1. That the high rise will destroy the quant small town feel that Georgetown offers, which is one of the reasons our realestate is so high.
2. Georgetown still draws it's water from the aquifers under the town. In 2012 Georgetown ended up drawing more water than it should have aiding in the ground sinkage around parts of the town. How will the support of additonal # of condos in the downtown core affect more sinkage?

Not opposed to reconstruction but I am opposed to not preserving our older building in the downtown area. Please consider keeping our downtown area small and in true character!

Georgetown downtown has a wonderfully quaint feel and should not be changed so that someone can make more money. Our downtown has been used in movies because of it's appearance. All buildings in the downtown should not be higher than 3 stories max so that we can keep our uniqueness.

Recently, the Town of Halton Hills passed an interim bylaw that will halt the building of “monster homes,” that are an additional 25% gross floor area larger than the existing home it is added to, or 25% larger than a home that was previously on the lot. This applies to single detached dwellings. During the year that this interim bylaw exists, a Mature Neighbourhoods Character study is being completed to judge the possible impact of these buildings as they impose on nearby smaller structures due to their larger scale. I would like to submit the proposal that, although it is not a single detached dwelling, the 11-storey building proposed to be built on the lands municipally know as 69-79 Main St. S. and 94-98 Mill St. in Georgetown will impose on the mature character of the neighbourhood in the same way as larger houses.

I feel that the proposed condo development will mar the downtown appearance and possibly open the door to similar multilevel buildings in the downtown area in future. In my opinion, it is taking away from our heritage all in the name of 'progress'.

Our family moved to Georgetown because of the small town feel, lower population and the smaller class room sizes for our kids. Growth is inevitable for a town and reconstruction of older buildings is a necessity. But for Georgetown, I feel there is a right way and a wrong way to move forward. I read the most recent article in the town paper about the McGibbon development and it angered me. Yes, let's put some money into the downtown core, revitalize the buildings and boost the businesses of the quaint shops, I'm not against that. We should however, maintain the historical design and feel of the town's heritage through any reconstruction. An 11 story condo, made of glass and steel is not the style that this location requires. visiongeorgetown.ca development south of 15 Sideroad, outlines a forward thinking view for future developments for our town, I think this beautiful condo would fit in this location better. Main street should remain a low density residential area where people local and from surrounding cities love to visit, shop and enjoy the small town activities.
We don't want to lose that and I feel this style of development will turn people away.

This building will be an ugly wart on our historical Main Street. Nobody should be fooled; all the business on and around main will be negatively impacted by such a huge construction site! The town just passed a by-law to stop monster houses that ignored their surroundings. This is a monster condo unit ignoring its surroundings.

I don't object to tearing down the McGibbons Hotel because it has been a dump and a dive since I was growing up in the 50's & 60's. What I do object to is the monstrosity that is being planned in it's place. The only way that it wouldn't look ridiculous and out of place is if they also tore down the entire main street. I am starting to think that favours have been promised because that is the only way I can conceive this council approving this design. Why can't the developer keep the inside of the building the same but just re-design the outside to blend in with the downtown flavour as it is now.
