I am so angry that posters advertising apartments in this monstrosity have already been put up, saying they are coming soon. Let us hope we can put a stop to this right now as once they start our Main Street will NEVER be the sameagain.

Totally against this in downtown Georgetown. It would affect the quaint downtown, the farmers market, parking, and an 11 storey building would look ridiculous.

I'm all for downtown development but it should support the look and feel of downtown.
Several downtown property owners have taken the care and have made/are making the investment to renovate their buildings (myself included) to support the special character of downtown. This developer must be held to the same standard.
Honestly, an 11 story glass building in downtown Georgetown? What's currently the tallest building downtown? Three or four floors? How much glass facade to we currently have downtown? Do you think this proposed building might look a bit out of place?
Have a look at what huge monster homes have done to quaint neighbourhoods in Toronto. Is this what we really want for our town?

i was born and raised in georgetown. I have spent a lot of time in the downtown over the almost 50yrs of my life. I agree that change has to happen as the years go on. Developers can build but to reach a compromise on where MOST will be happy then there's give and take. The restoration and building of the McGibbon does NOT need to be 11 storeys and definitely SHOULD NOT be glass and aluminum. The Developer needs to respect the heritage of this town and design a building within the historical character of the existing building. As mentioned in the article, 3 recent buildings have kept their historical design and compromised on their indoor appearance to give their business the ambience and character their town residents would enjoy and appreciate. The McGibbon hotel was built back in 1847 and so was much of the downtown core, this needs to be preserved not an 11 storey glass and aluminum structure. If most of the businesses can be designed with the local historic ideas then so can the McGibbon hotel which I may remind the developer is a very important building in the history of this downtown as well as placed on one of THE four corners of our Main Street!! Developer/Architect-come up with some other design ideas for the McGibbon that preserve the historical heritage of our downtown!!

I'm not against the McGibbon being torn down and replaced, I'm against it being replaced with an 11 story all glass building which can be seen from just about anywhere in Georgetown. What I'm against is the size but more importantly I'm against the fact that the company indicated a glass structure instead of a glass and brick structure would be less noticeable. I work for a glass company and don't be fooled by that statement. It is much less expensive to construct a building of glass than it is a building of brick and glass. When I read this I was outraged this isn't about blending in this is about saving lots of money on construction. Shame on them.

The new exterior wall does not blend with the surrounding buildings. I prefer to have low rise (4 or 5 levels) building. They don't provide enough parking spaces for their own occupants. Our public parking spots will be taken over by their tenants or their unit owners.

I really hope they keep things old school and don't add anything modern to downtown. It's really upsetting that they're trying to make downtown "new and improved" when it is already perfect.
