S.O.S. - Save Our Sunset Beach from Being Privatized!!

This place is a Gem. NO to privatization! Look what happen to Burlington's water front.

There is a great organization based in Fort Erie that has been fighting for public access to beaches along Lake Erie for years. It is called Shorewalk and you can find info and contacts on www.shorewalk.ca.

Municipal/Sunset Beach is for everyone's use & this volleyball proposal should be denied.

This relentless tendency of government reducing the publics access to their right of way to waterfronts through privatization must be curtailed.

Keep our beaches for everyone

I cannot in good faith agree with this privatization of our public beach. Developers have let Port Dalhousie in a shamble over the years with new businesses struggling to make a go of it. Sometimes things need to be left well enough alone. Sunset beach has long been a St. Catharines PUBLIC beach for families to have a quick getaway to relax and enjoy. There are other options to have sports on other beaches that do not force out the public to share their family and friends time. There shouldn't be a sport monopoly on our public beach...period!

This is like a nightmare we can't wake up from. Municipal (Sunset) Beach is a beach used by families throughout the Niagara Region, as well as visitors to the area from outside Niagara who are looking for a safe and relaxing place to spend time with their families. In no way at all should the City of St. Catharines be entertaining the idea of closing off half of the beach for 12 permanent beach volleyball courts to benefit an organization that we have come to realize has been less than truthful in their intent. I live very close to this beautiful beach and have seen the use of it dramatically increased over the last several years. This is a wonderful thing to see, but already we see increased vehicle traffic, insufficient parking and lack of sufficient washroom facilities, and really, the beach and park cannot support the added influx of tournament and day camp activities such as this proposal is suggesting. At the very least, an independent and unbiased study needs to be completed to look at the proposal and the strain it would place on the pristine nature of the beach. This beach is and should always be for public use. To suggest otherwise is ignorant. Please leave the beach alone...beach volleyball requires sand...and since they'd have to truck in proper sand anyway...truck it in somewhere else!

Beachs are free for EVERYONE TO GO TO. Not to just take away for you to make money. Quit being greedy and spend the money where it should be like cleaning up downtown and helpping the homeless people get off the steets.

I know this beach very well; it belongs to all of he people of St. Catharines there public access should not be restricted and given to a sports group.

Give them jones beach, people have about as much use for that beach as people have for volleyball

The beat public beach in St. Catharines should not be ruined.

The city should put a little money into this hidden jem and let the public enjoy it .

I used to live in St. Catharines and I think it would be awful to privitize the beach. I live in South Carolina and the whole coastline is open to the public by law.

Tell them to try for Jones beach

I spent a lot of time at that beach growing up and have a lot of great memories from there. Let future generations enjoy it just as much as we did.
