City of St. Catharines, who gave you permission to do this to our beach? Do you forget who elected you and who will not vote for you in the next election if you do this. This beach is for the public not another organization looking to profit from our natural beach. Are you that greedy for funds that you would sell out our beaches..shame on you!

I can't believe that through lack of foresight, municipal planners would yet again forfeit the public's access to the waterfront. Progressive cities the world over are reclaiming their waterfronts to increase tourism and business attracted to well designed popular public spaces. Here in Niagara, we seem to be going backwards all in the name of the short sightedness of 'short term gain $$$' .

I have many great memories of this beach! It should remain public so generations to come can enjoy the park!

We always look forward to visiting my sister in St. Catharines and enjoy the lovely summer days on the beach. I certainly hope this proposal doesn't get approved. It would be a shame to lose this lovely public beach.

Does anyone remember Michigan Beach on the opposite side of harbour from Port Dalhousie? That was also a very nice beach but it was taken away as part of the marina addition making more space for those wealthy enough to pay the marina fees. Now the wealthy need somewhere for their kids to play volleyball and attend volleyball summer camps while those not fortunate enough can……well what can they do? Well you can support this petition for one AND you can send an email to [email protected] and ask that she pass your comments on to council. The pitch is that these courts will be available to the public when the club is not using them. Given the all day camps, the nightly training for the teams and the every weekend tournaments that leaves very little time for the public. Keep this beach public and the sand available for all.

this everchanging proposal has no benefit to the workaday folk of Niagara Region. It takes 1/2 the beach away. A beach that is busy with families, swimmers, boaters, dog walkers, sunlovers everyday during the summer. The beach should remain as it is, without the 12 volleyball nets, for the benefit of all citizens throughout Niagara Region - imagine going down to the beach to be told it was closed for a volleyball tournament??? The public beach should be kept public for the enjoyment of the the public not for the enjoyment of private interests. There are other places with much bigger beaches that would accommodate this. Another real estate persons vision of what would be good for the community is what this is about. At best it would be revenue neutral to the City unless they are eyeing ever increasing property taxes as they seem to perceive this would be some sort of attraction for tourists. C'mon......get real.

The name was recently changed to Sunset Beach, as so many come to peacefully enjoy a quiet Sunset.

Don't let them take our past and present memories away for some company to take over to make money.This beach is and always should be kept for our whole community to enjoy just like it does now

Keep Sunset Beach public, they can set up volleyball courts on any open parcel of land, does not have to be at a beach front location.
